Police: Suspect shot, killed after alleged ‘home invasion’ in St. Pete<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAn investigation is underway after an alleged “home invasion” in Pinellas County, according to police.<\/p>\n

It happened at around 2 a.m. Wednesday at a residence on 40th St. North. The St. Petersburg Police Department said two men entered the home before the homeowner fired shots and injured one of the suspects.<\/p>\n

That suspect, later identified by police as Marcel James Williams, 20, was taken to the hospital, where officials say he died from his injuries. The second suspect, meanwhile, fled.<\/p>\n

No further details were immediately available.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Father shoots at man who broke into kids\u2019 bedroom, Butts County sheriff says<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Butts County Sheriff Gary Long says a man was shot at by a Jackson father after breaking into his children\u2019s bedroom early Monday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, very disturbing,\u201d said Shelley Cook, who lives across the street on Thornberry Trail. \u201cYou\u2019re talking about the youngest girl, today is her birthday. She\u2019s ten. The boys are a little older but still, they\u2019re children. They were put in harm\u2019s way. They don\u2019t even feel safe in their own home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe broke out the window, he started crawling through the window, and that\u2019s when the father… the kids ran out of the room and got the father,\u201d said Long. \u201cThe father challenged him, he didn\u2019t have a gun at the time, and the suspect jumped out of the window.\u201d<\/p>\n

The father, a military veteran, then got his handgun.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s when the suspect had busted the bay window on the front of the house, and actually was about three quarters of the way into the house, and making threats that he was going to kill him,\u201d said Long.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when the father pulled the trigger and the man, identified as Abdil Aquil, fell out the window.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe father of that home, the husband of that home, is the hero. Without the actions that he took, I really believe, 28 years of doing this job, I believe we would\u2019ve had a homicide,\u201d said Long.<\/p>\n

Aquil wasn\u2019t hit, and Long says it took three deputies and a Taser to get him in custody.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey got here really quick, which is a good thing,\u201d said Cook.<\/p>\n

Aquil is charged with burglary, home invasion, terroristic threats, three counts of cruelty to children in the 1st degree, criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree, and obstruction of law enforcement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
