Under the terms of the legislation, the bill would “[provide] that it is a defense to aggravated battery when the individual battered is a peace officer and the officer responded to an incident in which the officer interacted with a person whom a reasonable officer could believe was having a mental health episode and the person with whom the officer interacted has a documented mental illness and acted abruptly.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So the cop being attacked is supposed to recognize that the person attacking him is having a medical episode? Diagnose that in split seconds, and back off? We’re all familiar with the images of the world’s hypocrite<\/del>s climate saviors like Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio (can anyone else take him seriously? Every time I hear his name I flash to Bugs Bunny and “It’s Leopold!”\u00a0 Yeah, I first think of the Lone Ranger when I hear Rossini, too) flying their big private jets in to protest cow farts whilst polluting thousands of cubic miles of sky.\u00a0 This conference is expected to draw as many as 50,000 attendees with associated flunkies, vassals, toadies, hangers-on, hookers etc. and the Brazilians are getting ahead of the game – by clearing forest to put in a new four-lane highway for their convenience. Yep, clear rain forest so the limo ecolorati will have nice roads to get 4 mpg on.<\/p>\n

Images of a stark wasteland come up… now we get to the rest of the story. The road is a whole 8 miles long. Thousands of acres? Maybe barely. How wide is a 4 lane highway…couple hundred yards maybe? For the sake of simplicity, let’s say 528 feet treeline to treeline, a tenth of a mile. That’s an area of .8 square miles, 512ish acres. Maybe just a little bit of media agenda here… now, if you include some other Brazilian highway projects, they easily hit those “thousands”, and provide quick transportation for illegal logging and poaching operations – but they have nothing to do with the conference.<\/p>\n
