Person critically wounded by police in East Side shooting<\/strong>

A person was shot and critically wounded by a Chicago police officer in the city\u2019s East Side neighborhood Friday afternoon, officials and police sources said.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the shooting occurred about 1:45 p.m. in the 11400 block of South Avenue G near Eggers Grove near the state line. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability initially said the shooting occurred in the 3800 block of East 112th Street.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Chicago police said an officer with the South Chicago District and a Forest Preserves of Cook County police officer responded to a call of a male armed with a knife chasing someone.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival, the city officer was approached by a male wielding a knife who \u201cthen quickly advanced toward\u201d the officer, according to the statement. Police said the officer attempted to distance himself from the man in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but that the officer fired a shot.<\/p>\n

The man, of unknown age, was struck somewhere on the body and the officers applied a tourniquet before he was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center and initially reported in critical condition.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I imagine he was struck somewhere on the body where a tourniquet would do some good. This level of detail seems beyond the reporter’s capabilities so why mention it in the first, never mind.<\/p>\n

Friends identify MMA fighter killed while breaking into Lake City home<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nLAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) – Friends and family have identified the man that Lake City Police Department officers say was shot while breaking into a home on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Lake City Police Department officers say they found a 31-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound at a home on Southwest Leslie Glen around 11 p.m. Friends and family identified the man on social media as Langston Sykes, aka Lanko. He was an MMA fighter with the ring name \u201cBlaze.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officers say he broke into the home while multiple people, including children, were inside. Friends and family say his ex-wife and children lived there.<\/p>\n

When the man rushed toward the victims, officers say another adult fired multiple shots.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
