Riley and Ft. Leavenworth, stopping at the Negro Leagues Museum and American Jazz museum and hitting the Harry Truman Library in Independence, MO.\u00a0 This may take a little longer&#8230;it&#8217;s Texas, y&#8217;all. Things are further apart. Here&#8217;s a few ideas:<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s official &#8211; the USS Texas, moved to Galveston for repairs from her former home by the San Jacinto Monument, will officially remain in Galveston.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Galveston Wharves Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to move the Battleship Texas to Pier 15, which is near the cruise terminals. They didn\u2019t give a timetable of when the ship would make its move there, though.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pentagon-troops-covid-reenlist-vaccine-476bd48d0e90bbe7cf065b2de85d236f\">AP News<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She served proudly in WWI, WWII (Pacific and Atlantic theaters) and her single busiest day was shelling Omaha Beach at D-Day. She supported the landings in North Africa and Normandy before heading west to support Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and is the only surviving Dreadnaught class ship .\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/USS_Texas_(BB-35)\">Wiki<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Add Galveston to your travel plans. Best to avoid mid-summer, it does warm up a bit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-74602 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Buffalo-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Buffalo-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Buffalo-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Buffalo-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Buffalo.jpg 780w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From there head up 45 to Houston, to the Center for African American Military History (CAAMH), inc., dba Buffalo Soldiers National Museum (BSNM) in the Museum District.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In 1866, through an act of Congress, legislation was adopted to create six all African American Army units. The units were identified as the 9th and 10th cavalry and the 38th, 39th, 40th, and 41st infantry regiments. In 1869, the four infantry regiments were reorganized to form the 24th and 25th infantry regiments.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/buffalosoldiersmuseum.org\/the-buffalo-soldiers\/\">Buffalo Soldiers Museum<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some proud history there, and a damned fine tribute to folks who were not even allowed to vote &#8211; but fought and died for our country. Did you know a group of 25th\u00a0 Infantry soldiers <em>bicycled<\/em> 1900 miles from Ft. Missoula to St. Louis in 1897? 100 pound bikes, no paved roads&#8230; fact.\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stlpr.org\/show\/st-louis-on-the-air\/2017-05-03\/120-years-ago-u-s-army-buffalo-soldiers-took-a-1-900-mile-bicycle-trek-to-st-louis\">St. Louis PR<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-167234 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Visit-header-300x143.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Visit-header-300x143.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Visit-header-500x238.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Visit-header-768x366.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Visit-header.jpeg 1300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Head west to Fredricksburg, TX.\u00a0 The National Museum of the Pacific War is there. Now, the Hill Country of Texas is lovely but a primarily naval museum there? Well, turns out that a fella\u00a0 you may have heard of was actually born there, Admiral Chester Nimitz, and much of the museum is dedicated to him.. By the way, this is a Smithsonian affiliate.<\/p>\n<p>Besides being a big wine town, Fredericksburg is noted for German cooking, and they claim their barbecue is first-rate.\u00a0 Museum followed by dead critter and libations &#8211; what more could you ask?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-135167 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Reginald-Desiderio-MoH-300x248.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Reginald-Desiderio-MoH-300x248.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Reginald-Desiderio-MoH-402x333.jpeg 402w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Reginald-Desiderio-MoH-768x636.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Reginald-Desiderio-MoH-1536x1272.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Reginald-Desiderio-MoH-2048x1695.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then you head northeast to Arlington. Not the cemetery, the town between D and FW.\u00a0 Come March 25th, the newest museum on the list will be opening:\u00a0 The National Medal of Honor Museum. This one is brand new, and I read they will have a variety of exhibits on famous battles like Chosin Reservoir and Guadalcanal.\u00a0 For a few bucks extra they even offer the &#8220;Dustoff Experience&#8221;.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/mohmuseum.org\/posts\/acf-page\/homepage\/exhibits-and-events\/moments-of-action-exhibit\">MoHMuseum<\/a>\u00a0 Saw the Confederate* Air Force Museum its first year in Midland, and the WWII Memorial in DC the weekend it opened. I&#8217;m thinking seeing this one in its inaugural year is mandatory.<\/p>\n<p>*Wasn&#8217;t PC-renamed to Commemorative then.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once did a driving trip, hitting up the Buffalo Soldier&#8217;s monuments at Ft.
