Yvette Davids in late January began by noting that &#8220;The President has directed that the following information be forwarded to all employees.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are taking steps to close all agency Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) offices and end all DEIA-related contracts in accordance with President Trump\u2019s executive orders titled Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing and Initial Rescissions of Harmful Executive Orders and Actions,&#8221; it said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/naval-academy-closing-dei-offices-align-trump-executive-orders-memo\">Fox News<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In June of &#8217;23 SCOTUS found that the admissions programs used by the University of North Carolina and Harvard College violated the Constitution\u2019s equal protection clause, which bars racial discrimination by government entities.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration and 35 former top military leaders filed as a \u201cfriend of the court\u201d in support of Harvard and UNC, had emphasized that senior military leaders believe that it is important to have a diverse officer corps. This in turn requires the consideration of race for admission to the service academies. Since the service academies were not named in the Harvard and UNC cases the lower courts did not consider that argument. Chief Justice Roberts indicated in a footnote the Supreme Court did not weigh in on the issue, \u201cin light of the potentially distinct interests that military academies may present.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This non-decision shielding the service academies was doomed the moment Affirmative Action was found to be unconstitutional, and rightly so. One would think schoolhouse leadership would have seen this coming and make changes proactively, but it seems not to be the case.
