I guess I am REALLY old – I remember when they used to be impartial defendants of the Bill of Rights, in its entirety. Heck, I remember when the National Rifle Association mentioned that the ACLU had actually supported the NRA’s side of lawsuits more often than not (yeah, THAT’s old.) Since then – well, cicil rights has been turned into a catchall term for whatever weirdness they want it to be, right?

In a letter to Colorado sheriffs signed by ACLU of Colorado executive director Deborah Richardson and legal director Tim MacDonald, the group warned of severe personal consequences for law enforcement officials in Colorado if they comply with any ICE requests, including ICE detainers, which often keep the agency from having to undertake dangerous arrests in public spaces.

These are threats of personal lawsuits, not just against the departments.

ACLU of Colorado also harshly criticized the Aurora Police Department for working with ICE in December to detain over a dozen immigrants in a violent home invasion and kidnapping incident linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA). Fox News

Probably right, they shouldn’t have detained ’em in jail – I’d bet Ms. Richardson and Mr. MacDonald probably have pretty nice digs, and the TdA guys would be much more comfortable there.

This is happening in Colorado, easily classified as another granola state now, so one can’t predict. But it sure would be nice for someone in the government to grow a set of cojones and enforce the Federal laws on the books.

(I did a search for “fire” and this pic came up. I can go with it.)

Reportedly some of the good citizens in LA (yes, I am told there are some) detained someone starting fires. Hyperbolic reports reported a “flamethrower” at first, but it seems a simple torch was a more likely tool used.

The homeless man tackled and zip-tied by onlookers who say he was trying to start fires with a blowtorch near a Los Angeles wildfire is an illegal immigrant who will likely be protected by California’s sanctuary city status, according to sources. The suspect is Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva, a Mexican national who is in the United States illegally, sources told The Post. He was chased and taken down by residents of Woodland Hills after they allegedly saw him torching old Christmas trees and debris on fire with what one resident described as a “flamethrower” soon after the massive wildfire began Thursday. NY Post reporter Brian Faas shares this story. NY Post

Mr. Sierra-Leyva should be assisted back to the border. Fourteen bodies from the colonies’ defeat at the Battle of Camden have been unearthed and DNA testing is going on to try and identify them.

Camden was one of the uglier battles – The Colonial general Gates faced off against Cornwallis and company – the colonials started with almost 2:1 advantage but British General Webster opened the proceedings with a bayonet charge against Gates’ rawest troops, who almost immediately broke and ran. At the end of the day the colonists had over 1900 killed, wounded, or captured out of their 3900, versus 237 Brits from their 2200. It is ranked as one of our worst-ever defeats per the article.

Forensics labs need Americans with 18th-century ancestral ties to the states of Maryland, Delaware or North Carolina to come forward for genetic testing. If successful, it will be the oldest unknown subject identification ever made in the United States.

FHD Forensics, which performs investigative genetic genealogy for law enforcement, began DNA analyses for the 14 unknown soldiers. Astrea Forensics has since successfully resequenced genetic profiles for two of the soldiers, with the rest forthcoming. One of the bodies, believed to be a North Carolina loyalist of American Indian descent, was not tested and was reburied outside of the public eye.

To identify the remaining troops, FHD Forensics is asking anyone with ties to colonial Maryland, Delaware or North Carolina or to the Battle of Camden to join the project. Military.com

A better description of the battle is in the linked article.

Well, first up is the formerly useful American Civil Liberties Union.
