Brooklyn man shot by cops involved in bodega shooting; aimed gun at sergeant: NYPD<\/strong><\/p>\n

A 50-year-old man shot by Brooklyn cops was involved in a violent clash inside a nearby bodega where a round was fired, then took aim at a responding sergeant before officers opened fire, NYPD officials said Saturday.<\/p>\n

Police were patrolling Canarsie in two unmarked vehicles at about 9:45 p.m. Friday when they heard a gunshot from inside MMH Food at the corner of E. 80th St. and Flatlands Ave.<\/p>\n

As cops approached, they saw the suspect exit the bodega and run off down the street.<\/p>\n

Cops chased the man on foot, ordering him to stop, when he suddenly darted behind a tree and raised his gun at an approaching uniformed sergeant.<\/p>\n

Four of the responding officers fired at the suspect, striking him in the stomach, NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said at a press conference at the 69th Precinct station house early Saturday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nHouston police officers shot a man after they said he turned toward them while holding a gun following a hit-and-run early Sunday in west Houston, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

It was the second police shooting in the past week.<\/p>\n

The man, whose identity was not immediately released, was taken to a local hospital where his condition was stabilized. He was expected to survive, police department assistant Chief Wyatt Martin said during a briefing at the scene. Neither of the officers involved in the shooting were injured.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. in front of a gas station near the intersection of Hillcroft Street and Richmond Avenue.<\/p>\n

At 2:57 a.m. officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run crash at the intersection and discovered one vehicle still at the scene with a driver inside, Martin said.<\/p>\n

As officers approached, the driver allegedly exited his vehicle while holding a gun. Martin said officers directed the driver to drop his gun, but he failed to do so and instead turned toward the officers.<\/p>\n

At that point, the officers fired their guns and struck the man at least one time, Martin said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
