Security Guard claims deadly New Year\u2019s Eve shooting was self defense<\/strong><\/p>\n

PHILADELPHIA, PA \u2014 A man was fatally shot Tuesday night in the Germantown neighborhood after allegedly charging at a security guard with a knife, police said.<\/p>\n

Officers from the 14th District responded to a report of a \u201cPerson with a Gun\u201d at the 5500 block of Germantown Avenue at approximately 8:15 p.m. Upon arrival, they found an unresponsive Black male with a gunshot wound to the chest and multiple self-inflicted stab wounds.<\/p>\n

The victim was transported to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m.<\/p>\n

According to police, the armed security guard for a banquet hall in the area told officers he acted in self-defense after the decedent approached him with a knife. The security guard remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Police Announce Arrest in Glebe Road Shooting<\/strong>
\nARLINGTON, Va. \u2013 The Arlington County Police Department\u2019s Homicide\/Robbery Unit is announcing an arrest in the January 1, 2025, shooting inside a residential building in the 1000 block of N. Glebe Road. Malachi Rawlings, 21, of Washington DC was arrested and charged with Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.<\/p>\n

At approximately 1:11 a.m., police responded to the report of an assault with a weapon. The preliminary investigation indicates the male suspect became engaged in a verbal dispute with a group of individuals inside a common area of a residential building. The male suspect then brandished and discharged a firearm, striking the victim. One member of the group then discharged a firearm, striking the suspect.<\/p>\n

The victim, an adult male, self-reported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

The suspect was located at the intersection of N. Glebe Road and 11th Street N. Medics transported him to an area hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Following medical treatment, he was arrested and charged.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
