Face it, everyone KNEW Hunter would never face any jail time. I think the only shocker is the expanse of the pardon &#8211; with it Joe flipped a giant Eff You to the entire country, our system, and both political parties.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On Sunday night, President Joe Biden announced a &#8220;full and unconditional pardon&#8221; on all &#8220;offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in&#8221; over an 11-year period after repeatedly vowing he wouldn&#8217;t.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hunter turns out to have strangled a little girl? Had an affair with Jill?\u00a0 Sold fentanyl at grade schools by the ton? President should have to normally live by reasonable rules (unless he has to do something Presidential<em> for the country<\/em> we really don&#8217;t need to know about, in which case the rule is &#8220;never get caught&#8221;.) But in general, agreeing to act somewhat civilized would be nice, right? Even Trump signed off on the bill, as noted above. But:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But now, after blowing past deadlines to adhere to the law after winning the White House a second time, Trump appears to have excluded himself from those same ethical guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Trump missed two months of deadlines before finally signing off on an agreement with President Joe Biden\u2019s administration to begin the presidential transition process this week.<\/p>\n<p>But the agreement does not appear to include the president-elect\u2019s pledge to avoid conflicts of interest while in office, despite requirements under a renewed Presidential Transition Act he signed into law four years earlier.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p data-t=\"{&quot;n&quot;:&quot;blueLinks&quot;}\">Sign the law, ignore the law &#8211; wait, what?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-t=\"{&quot;n&quot;:&quot;blueLinks&quot;}\">Trump\u2019s team is turning down federal funding and office space for his transition team \u2014 as well as official government checks and security checks for his staff. The president-elect has rebuffed agreements with the Department of Justice to process security clearances to access classified information during the transition.<\/p>\n<p>The team \u201cwill operate as a self-sufficient organization,\u201d and its \u201corganizational autonomy means a streamlined process,\u201d Trump\u2019s campaign said in a statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Who thinks by wealthy donors financing the transition it will be cleaner and less corrupt than if the government funds it. Private donors? Isn&#8217;t that lumped under &#8220;Pay to Play&#8221;?<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-lightbox\" data-lightbox-src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/2d43ePgoFgEria.J7zwEXA--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTI0MDA7aD0xNDMw\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/the_independent_635\/e38a87ffa35927d5afed246de6bf13dd\">\n<blockquote><p>Without thorough reviews of the incoming administration\u2019s financial withholdings and interests by the Office of Government Ethics, those nominees could be in a position to benefit from their proximity to power, according to Campaign Legal Center counsel Kedric Payne, a former deputy chief counsel with the Office of Congressional Ethics.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<blockquote>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-lightbox\" data-lightbox-src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/2d43ePgoFgEria.J7zwEXA--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTI0MDA7aD0xNDMw\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/the_independent_635\/e38a87ffa35927d5afed246de6bf13dd\">\n<p>\u201cWithout this crucial review \u2014 which is mandated by law \u2014 nominees may enter office with conflicts of interest (obvious or hidden) that they are not ordered to remedy,\u201d Payne said in a statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-lightbox\" data-lightbox-src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/2d43ePgoFgEria.J7zwEXA--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTI0MDA7aD0xNDMw\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/the_independent_635\/e38a87ffa35927d5afed246de6bf13dd\">\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;If we do not bother to hold some of the most politically powerful members of our government to ethical guidelines before they even enter office, there is little hope that these leaders will bother with ethics guidelines throughout their public service,\u201d he added.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/trump-signed-law-require-presidential-205144877.html\">The Independent<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-lightbox\" data-lightbox-src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/2d43ePgoFgEria.J7zwEXA--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTI0MDA7aD0xNDMw\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/the_independent_635\/e38a87ffa35927d5afed246de6bf13dd\">\n<p>Amen to that last.\u00a0 Maybe add the death penalty to ethics violations?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It should be no surprise to all that Biden pardoned his son Hunter .
