Police: Tile worker’s father shoots, kills contractor to defend his son<\/strong>

\nST. PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 A man who shot and killed a general contractor Friday afternoon at a St. Petersburg construction site won’t face criminal charges, according to police.<\/p>\n

It happened just after 1:30 p.m. at a vacant home being remodeled on Farragut Drive N.<\/p>\n

Police say the argument started when 38-year-old general contractor Mostafa M. Ah Abdo got into a disagreement with a sub-contractor tile worker over payment.<\/p>\n

“At the height of the argument, the tile worker started smashing completed tile work,” the police department wrote.<\/p>\n

That’s when officers say Abdo went to his truck, grabbed a firearm and threatened the tile worker with it.<\/p>\n

The tile worker’s father, 52-year-old Yamel Benitez, who was also laying tile at the site, then pulled out his own firearm and shot Abdo, “to defend his son,” police said.<\/p>\n

Abdo died from his injuries.<\/p>\n

Investigators say they determined Benitez’s actions were “justifiable self-defense,” and he was not arrested.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mechanic kills machete-wielding customer over tire dispute in self-defense shooting, Hialeah Police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nHIALEAH, FLA. (WSVN) – An overnight dispute over a tire in Hialeah turned deadly in what police called an act of self-defense.<\/p>\n

Hialeah Police units responded to the scene of the shooting in the area of West Second Avenue and 29th Street, at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Investigators 36-year-old Michel Lope Montes de Oca had contacted a mobile tire repair service to fix his vehicle.<\/p>\n

Detectives said the mobile mechanic, identified as 29-year-old Brandon Hurst, responded to the location and began working on Montes de Oca\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n

At some point, a confrontation took place between both men. Police said Montes de Oca became upset after he realized the tire that Hurst had installed was a used one.<\/p>\n

Detectives said Montes de Oca threatened Hurst, then charged at him with a machete in hand. In fear for his life, the mechanic took out his gun and opened fire, striking the irate customer multiple times.<\/p>\n

Police took Hurst into custody but later deemed the incident a \u201cjustified shooting in self-defense.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
