Michigan Man Free After Shooting Ruled Self-Defense<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nWhen Christopher Peterson of Inkster, Michigan, had to pull his firearm and shoot his mother\u2019s ex-boyfriend on July 3, he likely had no idea he\u2019d be charged with second-degree murder and have a court fight on his hands.<\/p>\n

Thankfully for Peterson, two months after the incident, a district court judge ruled the shooting to be self-defense and dropped the charges against him.<\/p>\n

According to police reports, Peterson, 24, was at his home late one evening and got into an argument with 49-year-old Dante Carey, his mother\u2019s ex-boyfriend. The argument escalated to threats, and Peterson pulled his gun and shot Carey several times. Peterson had a license to carry the firearm.<\/p>\n

Carey later died from his wounds, and Peterson was charged with both second-degree murder and using a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was later released on a $250,000 bond.<\/p>\n

According to Robert Burton-Harris, Peterson\u2019s attorney, Carey had a \u201clengthy history\u201d of domestic violence against Peterson\u2019s mother and at the time he was killed was on a tether for an unrelated assault with the intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and felonious assault. Still, Peterson was treated like a murderer and was set to go on trial earlier this month on the stiff charges.<\/p>\n

But on September 4, Judge Brian Oakley of Romulus\u2019s 34th District Court dismissed the murder charge and the charge of using a firearm during the commission of a felony after hearing some of the evidence in the case during the preliminary examination and determining Peterson shot Carey in self-defense.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Two injured after shooting along US-41 in Charlotte County<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nCharlotte County deputies are investigating a shooting that sent two people to the hospital near the county line of Charlotte and Sarasota Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

According to CCSO, the scene was near U.S.-41 and Cornelius Boulevard. The nearby roads were shut down for hours, but have since reopened.<\/p>\n

Deputies said they learned the disturbance involved two people and gunfire was exchanged.<\/p>\n

CCSO found the victim on the scene with injuries from the shooting and the suspect had fled the scene on foot.<\/p>\n

With the help of the North Port Police Department, authorities were able to find the suspect identified as Anthony Gooden.<\/p>\n

Gooden, 56, was injured in the shooting as well. Both Gooden and the victim were transported to hospitals for medical care.<\/p>\n

According to CCSO, an arrest warrant was obtained for Gooden. He is facing the following charges pending his physical arrest:<\/p>\n

\nA U.S. Secret Service (USSS) Uniformed Division officer was injured in Washington, D.C., Saturday night after accidentally shooting himself.<\/p>\n

The USSS told Fox News Digital that the “negligent discharge” occurred near 32nd and Fessenden streets in the northwest section of the city just before 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

The agent, who was on duty, was handling his service weapon when the firearm discharged.<\/p>\n

The USSS said the agent\u2019s injuries were not life-threatening, adding that he was taken to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation.<\/p>\n

Lt. Paul Mayhair, a public information officer with the USSS Uniformed Division, added that there were no reported injuries to any other individuals.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
