He played a “principal” part in the bombings of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in 1983, which killed 63 people, as well as the bombing of the Marine Corps barracks in the same year, which killed 241 U.S. personnel. In 2019 he was listed as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” by the State Department.

Israel Defense Forces spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari confirmed that Aqil was the target and said that “top operatives and the chain of command of the Radwan unit were eliminated” in the strike.

The Lebanese Health Ministry said eight people were killed in the strike, a tally that could rise, and that more than 50 others were injured, according to CNN.

Israel’s strike came after Hezbollah fired dozens of projectiles, rockets, and drones and caps an extraordinary week between the two sides as the situation threatens to boil over into all-out war.

Israel is believed to be responsible for an elaborate operation to sabotage Hezbollah’s communications devices earlier this week.

Washington Examiner

Israel not notifying whoever is currently running the White House of its intentions to attack Hezbollah is why they succeeded so brilliantly.
