So much crappy news…so many people I would love to see exit (wait till tomorrow’s column – obviously Kamala told Joe “hold my beer” on hiring.) But occasionally feelg-good comes over that doesn’t involve some POS getting lead poisoning rapidly.<\/p>\n
Might remember that back in April, like at many other universities, U. of North Carolina had student protests against Israel, for the Palestinians, and for all I know in favor of hunchbacked lesbian gopher screwing. Who can keep up… But the usual flag desecration didn’t quite turn out like at most schools.<\/p>\n
Back in May, activists on campus tried twice to replace the American flag on Chapel Hill’s quad with a Palestinian flag, but when they began taking it down the flagstaff for the second time, a group of students stepped in to prevent Old Glory from touching the ground.<\/p>\n
A student photographer captured the moment that went viral on social media and made national headlines as similar protests occurred on college campuses throughout the country.<\/p>\n
After the photo caught the country’s attention, a GoFundMe page created by a man named John Noonan, who initially started the fundraiser to buy “a few kegs” for the students and give his friends a good laugh, ended up raising more than $500,000 to throw the students a “rager.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Enter John Rich, as in “Big & Rich” – you know, “save a horse, ride a
raghead <\/del>cowboy”Rich thought the kids deserved a bit more. Monday it came to pass.<\/p>\nRich wanted to host a “protest to support patriotism” \u2014 hence the name “Flagstock” \u2014 and “make sure students and people in general feel it’s OK to be patriotic,” Oswald told reporters on Monday when asked about the name of the concert.<\/p>\n
Several hundred Chapel Hill students attended the music event, which included performances from Big & Rich, Lee Greenwood, Aaron Lewis and John Ondrasik, a.k.a. Five for Fighting \u2014 less than the anticipated 2,000 students organizers expected earlier in the week. Roman Rene Ramirez of Sublime also made a surprise appearance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Several hundred patriotic kids? Nowadays, that’s a bumper crop, not a disappointment. Good on all who performed or attended.<\/p>\n
“The event was a huge success! As of now, we’re beyond 700k views, and people all around America are commenting on social media as to how much they loved Flagstock,” Rich said in a statement to Fox News Digital on Tuesday, referencing a live-stream of the event online. “The artists all brought their A-game, and it was a show fit for a stadium!”<\/p>\n
After the show, Rich “met many of the students, and they were blown away with the whole thing,” he said. “They couldn’t believe we actually followed through on this event, and executed it at such a high level. Some students were even teary-eyed as they spoke with us. The whole thing was very positive, powerful and moving in many ways.”<\/p>\n
“My question for you is this: Do you still love America?” Rich asked students in the crowd during his performance on Monday at the local American Legion in Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n
The crowd responded by chanting, “USA! USA! USA!”\u00a0 Fox News<\/a>Fox News II<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Most of the original kids were fraternity members. Incredibly, the articles mention that many of the fraternities and sororities discouraged attendance.<\/p>\n
Matthew Broderick, a senior and a journalism major, told Fox News Digital that the “vibes on campus have been very split” in the lead-up to Flagstock.<\/p>\n
“There’s a lot of people who are in huge favor of this. They love this. And then there’s a lot of people who think this is a really bad idea,” Broderick said. “I mean, I think some fraternities and sororities have been telling the people \u2026 ‘Hey, don’t come to this. We think it’s a bad look.’ And then some have been like, \u2018Hey, please go to this is. It\u2019s a really good look. It’s good for our fraternity and our sorority.’ \u2026 But I don’t think there’s a consensus about this.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
