Might recall that Mexico, that bastion of strict law obedience and low crime, was suing ten U.S. gun manufacturers. The U.S. companies are alleged to be the source of Mexico’s “gun crime” problem. OK, quit laughing now, they are serious Now, they should know that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (normally abbreviated to PLCAA) says you can’t sue the gun companies for alleged “gun crimes” committed using their guns if the weapons were legally sold, a law needed because the anti-gun types were taking out a huge number of suits against the gun companies – not necessarily to win, but to force the companies to spend giant legal fees to fight the suits. “Nice gun company ya got here, be a pity of someone sued you out of existence”, right? Hence the PLCAA.<\/p>\n So Americans can’t sue Ruger, Glock, et al if their guns are legally sold through the multiple layers of buyers and distributors before they hit the local gun store, right? BUT – a couple of former anti-gun-group lawyers were working with the MEXICANS to sue. Should have been thrown out ASAP, right? Well, if you shop for the right judges…anything can and will happen and a judge allowed the suit to proceed because, hey, they aren’t Americans.<\/p>\n Good news Thursday, though.<\/p>\n US judge has thrown out most of a $10bn (\u00a37.8bn) lawsuit brought by Mexico against US gun manufacturers it says are fuelling (sic) rampant weapons trafficking that brings 500,000 guns south across the border every year.<\/p>\n The lawsuit, filed in a federal courthouse in Massachusetts – where several of the companies are based – argued that the “flood” of illegal guns in Mexico “is the foreseeable result of the defendants’ deliberate actions and business practices”.<\/p>\n Of the eight companies Mexico sued in 2021, six were dismissed by a judge who said that the country’s claims that US gun manufacturers are responsible for weapons trafficking to violent drug cartels are “gossamer-thin at best”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Music to the ears… but wait – he left two companies facing the suit?<\/p>\n While the cases against many of the companies were dismissed, Smith & Wesson Brands and Witmer Public Safety Group remain defendants following the judge’s ruling.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n I’m pretty sure S&W makes guns… before the boating accident I may have even had a few, and liked them well.\u00a0 Witmer Public Safety Group? Quick internet research says they make protective equipment for firefighters and first responders. Huh? Can some of you in the trade or up in the northeast illuminate this?<\/p>\n In his decision, US District Judge Dennis Saylor wrote that Mexico did not adequately prove that any firearms sold in Massachusetts caused the country harm.BBC News<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Glad the judge ruled as well as he did… hopefully he or a colleague with pitch the rest of this legally frivolous (wait for some Spanish in honor of the suit)\u00a0 mierda as soon as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ly trying to extort cash recompense to make up for how deeply the government is in the cartels’ pockets<\/del>.<\/p>\n
