Gonna start this Tuesday with a familiar set of names.<\/p>\n

Remember Hilary’s old vice chief of staff, Huma Abedin? Used to be married to a favorite (well, notorious) New York Pol, Anthony Wiener)? And we mentioned a while back that George Soros’s son, Alex, was starting to take over\u00a0 the reins at the Soros Open Society Foundation.<\/p>\n

Well, they met, they fell, they became a couple, and they are engaged. She is 47, he 38.<\/p>\n

The couple announced their engagement on Instagram on Wednesday, with Soros writing: \u201cThis happened\u2026we couldn\u2019t be happier, more grateful, or more in love,\u201d paired with a heart and ring emoji.NBC News<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

My mother was wont to comment “Isn’t it good they found each other” – somewhat like Southern women use the phrase ‘Bless your heart!”.\u00a0 I suspect sometimes hers, as mine is now, wandered over to internal thoughts like ‘devil-spawn’, ‘unholy alliance’\u00a0 or such. Ah well, best o’luck to the affianced couple.<\/p>\n

Some better news is up next – we have written before abut the Arizona rancher, George Allen Kelly who was charged with murdering an illegal immigrant on his land last year. No evidence but the testimony of a border-skipper who tends not to hang around on our side of the border, but the DA decided to press charges anyway. His first trial resulted in a hung jury, with one of 8 jurors finding him guilty and 7 innocent.<\/p>\n

“The court finds that the State is not able to articulate a reasonable basis for holding this case \u2018open\u2019 with a dismissal without prejudice. The interests of justice are not served by the dismissal without prejudice for a case that cannot and will not be re-tried,” Fink wrote. “The interests of justice are not advanced where the only thing to be accomplished by a dismissal without prejudice \u2026 is the harassment of the Defendant.”\u00a0 Fox News<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dismissal with prejudice means Mr. Kelly cannot be re-charged in future. Best possible outcome, I think.<\/p>\n

Some of use experienced the joys of Beryl last week – I just heard from a buddy in Houston that he just got power back on Sunday as this is being written. Not a huge storm as hurricanes go, but had the usual effect of stranding literally millions of Texans, mostly Houstonians, with no electricity. One would think if Biden wants to make our infrastructure more robust, he might be interested in helping storm-proof utilities in the nations 4th largest city, right? Naahhh…<\/p>\n

President Joe Biden told The Houston Chronicle on Tuesday that federal officials had not been able to get in touch with Texas state leaders for days \u2013 leading to a delayed distribution of emergency-relief supplies in the wake of Hurricane Beryl.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0president told The Chronicle\u00a0he had been trying to \u201ctrack down\u201d the governor to start the process of requesting aid.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He has a point in that the state needs to request the aid first. Now, Governor Abbot left for the Far East (note – well before the storm hit, certainly before it wheeled abruptly north)\u00a0 but we have a fairly well thouht out alternative – called the Lieutenant Governor. Fellow named Dan Patrick?<\/p>\n

\u201cI am disappointed that President Biden is turning Hurricane Beryl into a political issue,\u201d\u00a0Patrick said on X. \u201cWe had a cordial call today that ended up with him granting my request for a major disaster declaration. But that\u2019s not good enough for him. He is falsely accusing me that I was not reachable. He obviously did not know his own employees from FEMA were side-by-side with me for 3 days!
