Man shot, killed after holding 3 at gunpoint at Hartsville park, police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

Officials have identified a man killed after a shooting in the Pee Dee late Wednesday.<\/em>

HARTSVILLE, S.C (WMBF) – The man killed in a shooting at a park in Hartsville allegedly pulled out a gun first Wednesday night in what the town\u2019s police chief is calling a \u201csenseless act of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hartsville police said this all started on the internet with 21-year-old Jeremiah Josey and his brother, 20-year-old Jarivion Scott, planning to buy a motorcycle from someone on Facebook Marketplace.<\/p>\n

Josey, who was out on bond on house arrest and wearing an ankle monitor, asked the motorcycle seller to meet him at Byerly Park so he could buy it.<\/p>\n

At the park, Josey pulled out a gun on the motorcycle seller and two others, according to police.<\/p>\n

One of the victims, however, was legally armed with a gun and pulled it out, firing several times and hitting Josey, police said.<\/p>\n

Officers responded to the shooting around 8:30 p.m., and EMS took Josey to the hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n

Police said Scott was also at the scene and ran away after shots were fired. Investigators arrested him and charged him with armed robbery, attempted murder, weapons violations and criminal conspiracy in connection with the incident at the park.<\/p>\n

Scott was also out on bond after being charged in December 2023 with armed robbery and presenting a firearm, among other charges.<\/p>\n

Authorities charged Josey with kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery and attempted murder, among other charges, in connection with two cases in 2022, leading to his monitored house arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a senseless act of violence that should have never happened,\u201d Hartsville Police Chief Byron Snellgrove said. \u201cBoth suspects were out on bond for violent crimes when they should have still been incarcerated while awaiting trial.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 8405 Wilcrest Drive<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fatal shooting of a man at 8405 Wilcrest Drive about 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday (June 12) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.<\/p>\n

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.<\/p>\n

The male shooter, 26, was transported to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

HPD Homicide Division Detectives S. Chettry and M. Barton reported:<\/p>\n

HPD patrol officers responded to a home invasion call at an apartment complex at the above address and found two males with gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported both males to an area hospital, where one was pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n

A preliminary investigation determined one of the males forced his way into the other male\u2019s apartment and a struggle ensued. The surviving male (tenant) was shot at least once in the leg before he managed to take the gun away and shoot the other male (suspect).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
