\nNASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating a self-defense claim after a fatal shooting in the 600 block of Charles E. Davis Boulevard on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

According to police, 23-year-old Edrick Doak told detectives he shot 29-year-old Bryan T. Lewis because he believed Lewis was about to shoot him. Lewis died after being taken to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n

Police said the investigation shows that Doak was carrying a box of canned goods to an apartment from his car. Then Lewis rode up on a scooter and accused Doak of shooting him on a previous date, according to police.<\/p>\n

Doak denied it, according to police. Then Lewis got off his scooter and appeared to pull a gun from his waistband, police said. Doak dropped the box of canned goods and pulled his own gun and shot Lewis, police said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Update: No charges after shooting death of ex-boyfriend at Carmichael apartment, deputies say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA man was shot and killed Sunday morning after Sacramento County sheriff\u2019s deputies said he forced his way into a home and assaulted his ex-girlfriend\u2019s new beau in the couple\u2019s Carmichael apartment. The shooting took place on the 5900 block of Sutter Avenue in the Sutter Crossing apartments when the man, described by deputies as an ex-boyfriend, forced his way into the home, according to Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman for the Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

In an updated news release Monday, the Sheriff\u2019s Office said the man had \u201cknocked on the door loudly for approximately 20 minutes when the female finally opened the door.\u201d Deputies identified the woman as his ex-girlfriend and said she was living in the apartment with her new boyfriend. The man forced his way into the home and confronted the boyfriend.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
