\nA level-headed Army veteran thwarted a would-be thief’s attempt to rob his Omaha jewelry store by brandishing his handgun and sending the suspect running.<\/p>\n

Surveillance footage captured inside Sidrony Jewelers last Saturday shows a black-clad robber smashing one of the store’s glass windows to let himself inside.<\/p>\n

The criminal didn’t anticipate that anyone would be inside \u2013 let alone that they would be military-trained.<\/p>\n

Another camera captures the store’s owner, Garrett Peddicord, entering from a back room, leveling a pistol at the other person.<\/p>\n

“I typically carry a firearm on my waist, even after hours,” Peddicord told KETV. “It’s just one of those things: keys, wallet, firearm.”

\nPeddicord, who spent three years deployed in Afghanistan, said he “thank[ed his] lucky stars that [he] put so much thought and time and repetitive training and practice into how to responsibly carry a firearm.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Store owner shoots suspect during Montgomery County jewelry store heist<\/strong>
\nThe heist at Jems Jewels & Gold at The Shoppes at English Village was interrupted on May 8, 2024, Horsham Township Police said.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nA store owner shot a would-be jewelry store thief during an early morning heist in Montgomery County.<\/p>\n

The incident played out just after 5 a.m. at Jems Jewels & Gold at The Shoppes at English Village shopping center just off Bethlehem Pike (Route 309) in North Wales, Pennsylvania, Horsham Township police said.<\/p>\n

A group of people broke into several shops starting around 4 a.m. and cut through a of a wall of a nearby store to get into the jewelry store, sources close to the investigation said. A broken lock could be seen at a neighboring Massage Envy location. A hole was cut from that store into the waxing store next door.<\/p>\n

“Surprising, shocked, yeah disappointed to say the least,” Waxing in the City owner Liz Martin said.<\/p>\n

The jewelry store owner interrupted the heist as the suspects were already in the store, police said.<\/p>\n

The thieves, smashed through several walls and a bathroom on their way to the jewelry store.<\/p>\n

Power was cut to at least one business and that may have triggered a response from the store owner, sources said. The jewelry store owner found the suspects at work and struggle ensued during which the shooting took place.<\/p>\n

The injured suspect was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries that required surgery, police said.<\/p>\n

The suspect — identified as Timothy Overman of Poland, Ohio — was arraigned from his hospital bed early Thursday and held on $1 million bail.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
