Man who opened fire on officers through apartment door near downtown Houston killed, HPD says<\/strong>
\nHouston police said they were responding to an assault in progress call when officers got into a shootout with the suspect.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nHOUSTON \u2014 A man was killed Friday after getting into a shootout with Houston Police Department officers at an apartment complex near downtown Houston.<\/p>\n

This happened just before 6 p.m. at The Exchange apartment complex along Leona Street, which is just north of I-10 between North Main Street and Elysian Street.<\/p>\n

HPD said its officers responded to an assault in progress call at a unit in the complex and when they knocked on the door and rang the doorbell the suspect opened the door and immediately opened fire on them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
