\nWhite House Spox John Kirby<\/em><\/p>\n

Minutes after Iraq’s military condemned them as a violation of that nation’s sovereignty, White House spokesman John Kirby stated the United States informed Iraq ahead of Friday’s strikes against three militant sites inside that country.<\/p>\n

“We did inform the Iraqi government prior to the strikes,” White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby told reporters.<\/p>\n

No we didn’t, according to an unnamed State Department spox.<\/p>\n

US didn\u2019t inform Iraq about strikes beforehand, contradicting earlier White House statement<\/h3>\n

The United States did not notify the Iraqi government ahead of U.S. military strikes inside the country on Friday, a State Department spokesperson said Monday, countering an earlier White House message that Baghdad was told ahead of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was not a prenotification\u201d and Washington \u201cinformed the Iraqis immediately after the strikes occurred,\u201d Vedant Patel told reporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cIraq, like every country in the region, understood that there would be a response after the deaths of our soldiers,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The statement contradicts comments made by National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby, who told reporters Friday that the United States \u201cdid inform the Iraqi government prior to the strikes occurring.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday, Kirby told Politico that he \u201cresponded with information that I had been provided at the time\u201d and that it was \u201cnot as specific as it could have been, and I regret any confusion caused.\u201d<\/p>\n

And at the Pentagon, press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder did not answer a question on why the Iraqi government was not notified ahead of the U.S. strikes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
