\u2018Go woke, go broke\u2019: X has little sympathy as Sports Illustrated lays off entire staff<\/h3>\n

Sports Illustrated, once a staple in every American \u201cman cave,\u201d is in trouble.<\/p>\n

A \u201csignificant number\u201d of staffers learned in a Friday email that they would be laid off, Fox Business reports, adding that the move \u201cputs the future of the iconic sports publication that has been widely considered the gold standard of sports journalism for nearly seven decades in jeopardy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Authentic Brands Group has revoked its marketing license, The Arena Group, which operates Sports Illustrated (SI) and its related properties, explained to its employees.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result of this license revocation, we will be laying off staff that work on the SI brand,\u201d the email stated.

\n\u201cThe group\u2019s stewardship of SI has had many hurdles since then. In December, it fired chief executive officer Ross Levinsohn when the magazine\u2019s alleged use of AI-generated stories drew public backlash.\u201d<\/p>\n

But for users on X, AI-generated stories aren\u2019t the problem.<\/p>\n

The problem is that Sports Illustrated put \u201ca DUDE in a swimsuit on the cover of their 2023 annual swimsuit edition.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Nobody cares about AI generated sports articles; that’s just more journalistic laziness. Victoria’s Secret and SI went all Bud Light with obese and trans models, instantly disgusting their relative consumer bases and rapidly lost revenue for their trouble. VS is trying to recover by returning to its roots while the owners of SI just fired their publisher. Maybe the trademark can be resuscitated with fresh staff and a similar return to basics. Maybe former fans will ignore this too:<\/p>\n
