Oakland jewelry store owner opens fire on armed robbers; fed-up merchants seek emergency meeting with police<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAn attempted armed robbery that ended in a gun battle between the suspects and the owner of a jewelry store has shaken those who live and work in an Oakland neighborhood so much that they are calling for an emergency meeting with police and their local council member.<\/p>\n

Just after 10 a.m. Monday morning, employees of MSM Jewelry at International Boulevard and 42nd Avenue were walking in, preparing to open the shop for the day when two suspects burst through the door, guns drawn.<\/p>\n

The owner of the store said he shot at the suspects, and they fired back multiple times in an incident captured on security camera video. No one in the store was hurt, but the owner said he may have hit one of the suspects.<\/p>\n

This is just the latest in a string of violent armed robberies in the city’s Fruitvale District.<\/p>\n

Oakland City Councilman Noel Gallo said it’s gotten so bad, that local merchants are calling for an emergency meeting with city officials.<\/p>\n

“To express their concern, but we’re working with the police captain for the area. We did assign ongoing officers on a daily basis. We do have ambassadors in the violence prevention program,” said Gallo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) \u2013 Oklahoma City police have identified the man killed in the city\u2019s second homicide of the year.<\/p>\n

Officers said 55-year-old Marvin Thomas was killed Monday at a shooting inside SW 29th Street Motors, a business that sells cars and does repairs. Gates surrounding the building were locked Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Officers received a 911 call of a shooting around 5:30 p.m. Monday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cHomicide detectives just got on the scene and they\u2019re conducting their investigation right now,\u201d said Sgt. Rob Robertson, moments after police arrived at the business.<\/p>\n

The investigation uncovered Thomas had been shot twice.<\/p>\n

\u201cTurns out, that person that was shot arrived at the business, got into some type of altercation with another person inside,\u201d said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, spokesperson for the Oklahoma City Police Department.<\/p>\n

Police said Thomas walked into the dealership and got into a fight with an employee over a business deal. That was when Thomas reportedly pulled out a knife.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
