Ukrainians, using Soviet\/Russian model fighter jets fitted to carry and launch British storm shadow missiles, successfully hit a Russian warship in Crimea. The crew suffered death and injury, and the ship sunk. The British are also described as providing guidance and targeting support for strikes like this. Baranchik&#8217;s suggestion involved providing the Houthis, via Iran, with the missiles needed to strike a British warship.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>From Newsweek:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dozens of Russian servicemembers were declared missing or wounded after the 370-foot Ropucha-class Novocherkassk large landing ship was hit on December 26 in Crimea by Ukrainian cruise missiles. Moscow admitted damage to the ship, which carried a crew of up to 87 service members.<\/p>\n<p>The missiles used by Ukraine were reportedly provided by the U.K. Ministry of Defense, which also aided Kyiv with satellite reconnaissance and target guidance. It has led to some, including Russian political scientist Yuri Baranchik, to encourage Moscow to attack the British warship HMS Diamond.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a blow from Britain\/the United States and a desire to interrupt the positive background from the capture of Marinka, as well as the recent successes of the Russian Armed Forces at the front,&#8221; Barinchik wrote on Telegram, describing the attack as a &#8220;training exercise&#8221; for a potential future strike on Russia&#8217;s naval components in the Northern Fleet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This latest destruction of Putin&#8217;s navy demonstrates that those who believe there&#8217;s a stalemate in the Ukraine war are wrong,&#8221; U.K. Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said following the attack, according to Sky News. &#8220;They haven&#8217;t noticed that over the past four months, 20 percent of Russia&#8217;s Black Sea Fleet has been destroyed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the British Royal Navy declined to comment to Newsweek, which also reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Newsweek provides additional information on this story <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/putin-under-pressure-attack-british-military-1857119\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One Russian, Yuri Baranchik, reacted to the successful strike on a Russian warship in Crimea.
