NYPD cop shot, suspect killed in Lower East Side gunfight<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAn NYPD officer was shot and a suspect was killed Thursday as police attempted to arrest a sex offender wanted for shooting a man earlier this year, police said.<\/p>\n

With a warrant in hand, cops arrived at an apartment Kent Edwards, 43, was known to \u201ccouch surf\u201d at on Eldridge St. near Stanton St. around 11:45 a.m., NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at a news briefing.<\/p>\n

Two women inside the apartment told officers with the Manhattan Violent Felony Squad that Edwards was inside a bathroom with a gun, Kenny said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was one police car there and the guy was waving a gun out the window,\u201d said Diana Aldahondo, who lived across the street. \u201cHe was waving it and [police] screamed, \u2018Gun!’\u201d<\/p>\n

Aldahondo, 64, described a chaotic scene once cops spotted a gun as panicked people ran and \u201can invasion of cops\u201d swarmed to the building.<\/p>\n

Officers on the scene called for the NYPD\u2019s Emergency Service Unit to respond, and they spent nearly three hours working to coax Edwards out of the apartment.<\/p>\n

\u201cBody armor, shields, everything,\u201d Aldahondo said of the elite specialized police unit. \u201cThey tried to talk him out, they really tried, but they did what they had to do.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nA Maine food truck owner said he shot and injured a man in self-defense after the man wielded a knife at motorists and threatened to kill people ahead of a holiday parade in the New England town.<\/p>\n

“You always anticipate dealing with danger in a certain way, but you never know how you will react or how it would play out until you actually live it. It all happened so fast but in slow motion at the same time,” Addy’s food truck owner David Poto told Fox News Digital of the incident that unfolded on Dec. 1.<\/p>\n

Poto and his family were setting up their food truck business in Sanford in the late afternoon on Dec. 1, ahead of the town\u2019s Christmas tree lighting event and “Holly Daze” parade, when Poto spotted the man.<\/p>\n

Poto said he witnessed the unidentified man wielding a knife at motorists and threatening to kill them. He initially confronted the man without showing him he was holding a concealed firearm behind his leg, Poto told the Portsmouth Herald.<\/p>\n

Poto told local media that he got the man’s attention while he stood near traffic, leading the man to allegedly respond: “I\u2019m going to kill you” and “I\u2019m going to stab you.”<\/p>\n

Poto explained his wife was standing near their food truck, as the couple\u2019s four young daughters watched a Christmas movie inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n

“I didn\u2019t want to escalate anything,” Poto said. “But I knew the danger was coming toward us. Worst-case scenario, I was prepared.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
