20-year-old man shot, killed by law enforcement in DeLand<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nDELAND, Fla. \u2014
\nLaw enforcement shot and killed a 20-year-old man in DeLand who they say pointed a gun at them during a traffic stop, according to DeLand police Chief Jason D. Umberger.<\/p>\n

In a news conference Friday, Umberger and Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood explained officers conducted a traffic stop on a wanted vehicle connected to an incident from a week earlier.<\/p>\n

A sheriff\u2019s deputy was in the area of Woodland Boulevard and Euclid Avenue Friday at about 1 p.m. when the deputy saw a white Dodge Charger that fled an aggravated assault with a firearm last week. DeLand police also responded to the call.<\/p>\n

During the traffic stop, three people were inside the vehicle, including 20-year-old Jayvion Barthel in the backseat.<\/p>\n

Officials say Barthel pointed a gun at a DeLand police officer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
