13 women use firearms in self-defense against exes, criminals over 2-week period across US<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nAt least 13 women across the country used a firearm to fend off assailants between the waning days of July and Aug. 12, local news reports show.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan we take a minute to appreciate how many women have protected themselves and others with firearms in the last two or so weeks? It\u2019s basically a highlight [reel] of just how important the right to keep and bear arms is for us, too,\u201d Heritage Foundation senior legal fellow Amy Swearer posted on X, previously known as Twitter, detailing the cases.<\/p>\n

Local news reports from Arizona to Pennsylvania show that between July 29 and Aug. 12 there were at least 13 instances of women fending off assailants, most notably their own exes.<\/p>\n

A woman in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, for example, shot and wounded the father of her child on Aug. 11 after he assaulted her.<\/p>\n

The man was shot in the shoulder and had an outstanding warrant for violating a protection-from-abuse order to stay away from the woman.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nAnthony Galloway, 42, faces charges including grand theft, burglary<\/em><\/p>\n

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 New details were released Tuesday about the arrest of a carjacking suspect out of Daytona Beach \u2014 including how he was attacked by pit bulls after fleeing from the crime scene, according to the Volusia Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Deputies said Anthony Galloway, 42, ditched a car he had stolen during a carjacking at a BP gas station on Monday morning and started banging on the door of a unit at the Whispering Winds Apartments complex while screaming \u201cMomma.\u201d<\/p>\n

A 57-year-old woman living in the unit partially opened her door after hearing Galloway scream, and the man managed to force his way through the door, knocking her backward and slamming the door shut behind him, deputies said.<\/p>\n

According to a news release, when the woman realized Galloway was a stranger, she commanded her two pit bulls to attack him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had his hands up, hollering, \u201cMomma, momma! Help me!\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018I am not your momma. What are you? What!?\u2019\u201d said Marie Gilbert, who lives in the apartment. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t know you. Get him, girls!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Gilbert explained that one of the dogs latched onto Galloway\u2019s arm and the other on his hip. Once law enforcement arrived, they asked her to call her dogs away.<\/p>\n

\u201c(The dogs) grabbed him here, and the officers came in, and once they came in, they asked me to call the dogs off,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd once I called the dogs off, he got up from here, and he ran here and jumped out of my kitchen window.\u201d

\nAccording to the sheriff\u2019s office, Galloway\u2019s criminal history includes 67 prior felony charges with 12 convictions and 25 previous misdemeanor charges with 22 convictions. Those charges include 13 counts of grand theft, three counts of aggravated assault with intent to kill, aggravated battery on law enforcement, burglary with battery, armed robbery, aggravated fleeing, child cruelty and narcotics offenses.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
