Cocoa police: Fight between man, ex-girlfriend led to shootout near children’s football practice<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nCocoa police believe they have a suspect identified after a shootout between a coach and a man not far from a children’s football practice Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“It had nothing to do with football. All we heard was gunshots,” said Rashad Williams, the president of Cocoa Youth Athletics.<\/p>\n

He was on the field Tuesday when he says one of his coaches went to intervene in a fight happening not far from the field.<\/p>\n

“Because the kids ran and came and got him,” he said.<\/p>\n

And next thing Williams knew, “We heard the gunshots,” he said.

\nCocoa police said the coach intervened when things got physical between a woman and her ex-boyfriend.<\/p>\n

They say the ex went and grabbed a gun from his car.<\/p>\n

“And began to shoot at the witness who was trying to intervene,” public information officer Yvonne Martinez said. “That witness then also retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and there was an exchange of gunfire.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nRaleigh police will not file charges after a woman shot and killed a man in the parking lot of a Food Lion grocery store.<\/p>\n

According to police, 49-year-old Steven McLamb is accused of tugging on a woman\u2019s car door handle Tuesday after following her to the store at 7713 Lead Mine Road.<\/p>\n

He reportedly became aggressive as they were driving, and the woman shot McLamb in self defense.<\/p>\n

McLamb died from his injuries in the hospital.<\/p>\n

Raleigh police Maj. Brian Harrison said that authorities do not plan to file charges unless new evidence becomes available.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
