After gun rights advocates raised Second Amendment concerns, Congress included requirements that states applying for federal grants to implement red flag laws include certain due process protections.

Y’all remember that, right. Was good that we could at least build in some protections, even if the whole ‘red flag’ law skirted Constitutional due process issues rather closely.

But Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., and Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., say in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland that the Justice Department has handed federal funds to states that did not meet the minimum due process criteria. The letter accuses the Biden administration of ignoring Congress and demands to know why grants to at least eight states and territories with no red flag laws on the books nevertheless received federal funds under the DOJ program.

“The Department of Justice appears to have weaponized the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to illegally fund ineligible ‘red flag’ laws and bribe pro-gun states into passing gun confiscation laws,” the lawmakers wrote.

Fox News

This is why we don’t trust the government to do as they promise – maybe Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth” should have been about how no matter what they promise, they steamroller right past any protections. However, we also need to be paying attention – Friday late is when the government releases unpopular stuff, hoping that no one will notice. Last week was a fun one:

The Department of Energy (DOE) proposed energy efficiency regulations on water heaters late Friday, saying the new standards would go into effect in 2029 and save Americans billions of dollars while reducing carbon emissions.

Remember when A/C SEER standards were raised – and now a home A/C is more efficient and costs less money to run. Would that this would be the same…

“Their plan is to electrify everything they possibly can because they are under this distorted fantasy that renewables will be plentiful and cheap and reliable. They are none of the above,” said Mark Krebs, a mechanical engineer, energy policy consultant and former DOE adviser. “The physics defy what they want to do, the raw materials defy what they want to do, a free market economy defies what they want to do.”

Krebs added that the new water heater standards would lead to higher prices, higher installation fees and could even create serious corrosion risks in homes.

“The natural gas industry has consistently partnered with the government, customers and communities to help ensure the reliable delivery of energy Americans need, while also decreasing emissions and investing is cutting edge solutions to achieve our nation’s energy and environmental goals,” AGA President and CEO Karen Harbert said.

“DOE even emphasizes the cost impact this will have on customers in the NOPR, confirming there would be ‘additional installation costs’ where this action would drive customers to switch from natural gas to electric water heaters.”

Yeah, all-electric houses were the “wave of the future” in the ’70s. Electric power, however, has gotten far more expensive and unreliable since then. Oh, and:

AHAM spokesperson Jill Notini added the benefits of such DOE rulemaking would be marginal.

“This is yet another proposal that will hurt consumers,” she said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “When it comes to DOE’s claim that its proposed energy standards will save consumers money, the Emperor has no clothes.”

“Consumers will save only cents per month— no single proposal for Refrigerator-Freezers, Clothes Washers, Clothes Dryers, Cooking, Dishwashers will save consumers more than 65 cents per month,” Notini said. Fox II

65 whole cents a month.

Well, the Feds are at it again.
