We’ve been following Mikey and his MRFF for quite some time now. Interesting fellow- Air Force U grad where he was apparently exposed to soul-searing harassment. He has proclaimed himself the guardian of civil rights for military members and will staunchly settle out-of-court for any display of Christianity he deems profitable. He’s been filing lawsuits since 2005, where he sued the Air Force Academy for religious proselytizing. The case was dismissed. In fact, I can find no instance of MRFF prevailing in court. Appearing and pleading his case in a trial is not the strategy.<\/p>\n

This behavior has not gone unnoticed.<\/p>\n

Defense bill targets religious freedom group for its advocacy work<\/h3>\n

Military members and staff would be barred from interacting with a well-known advocacy group that has frequently sparred with Christian organizations under an amendment inserted into the House draft of the annual defense authorization bill last week.<\/p>\n

Defense officials and troops would be barred from communicating with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation or from making \u201cany decision as a result of any claim, objection, or protest made by MRFF without the authority of the Secretary of Defense,\u201d per language offered by Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, and adopted with unanimous, bipartisan support by the members of the House Armed Services Committee, according to documents supplied by the committee.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s founder called the legislative language an unconstitutional attack on their efforts and troops\u2019 rights, and vowed to fight the move as the measure winds through Congress.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I don’t usually get excited about bills and amendments until the things come up for a floor vote- they can and do die in committee for very good reasons. Usually, that is. Two things about this one: it’s Mikey and the amendment has support from both sides. That speaks volumes about Mr. Weinstein and I’ll be interested to see how far the amendment goes. Stay tuned.
