Well, if you thought you had heard it all from Presidential aspirant and California Governor Gavin Newsom, you are wrong.<\/p>\n
Newsom is calling for a CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION to amend the 2nd Amendment. And his wish list is exactly what you would expect:<\/p>\n
The amendment, Newsom said, would raise the federal minimum age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21. It would also bar civilian purchases of assault weapons, mandate universal background checks to keep guns out of the hands of potentially dangerous people and institute a \u201creasonable\u201d waiting period for all purchases, though he didn\u2019t specify a time period.<\/p>\n
The governor said the Second Amendment would remain unchanged and that his plan, which was first reported by Politico, would merely add \u201ccommon sense\u201d safety measures.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yep, the Second would remain unchanged… kinda like how the 18th (banning alcohol manufacture) remained after the 21st (which repealed the 18th.)<\/p>\n
Luckily Newsom faces an uphill battle – 27 states would have to agree to HAVE a Convention, and then 38 states would have to vote to ratify. Talk about herding cats… according to\u00a0Wiki<\/a> there have been 11,848 proposals to amend the Constitution – you may note that only 17 have been successful since 1789.<\/p>\n
I once had a political science professor who was horrified at the thought of a Constitutional Convention – as he said: “Look at what happened in 1789 when they met to amend the Articles of Confederation, and came up instead with the Constitution. Imagine what the idiots today could enshrine in a new Constitution….no, better to just leave the original in place.”<\/p>\n
