No doubt all should be aware of the weekend shooting in Cleveland, TX (NE of Houston) in which a family complained that their neighbor was shooting his rifle off after 10 at night – so he shot\u00a0 5 of them, killing 3, and fled.<\/p>\n
That’s bad enough. The anti-gun media are of course braying that he used a AR-15 (Devil’s handiwork! Horrible assault rifle! etc.), but not many seem to be reporting what I feel are the more important facts.<\/p>\n
There’s a bit of brouhaha that the Texas Governor incorrectly referred to the victims as illegal immigrants (apparently not) but more significantly, the SHOOTER,\u00a0 Francisco Oropesa (or Oropeza depending on the source),\u00a0 was an illegal (Mexican) who has been deported multiple times and came back each time.\u00a0 Ah, yes, illegal immigration is a victimless crime, they say, they just want to come here and work they say…\u00a0 this one was living here with his wife (presumably illegal as well? No one says.)\u00a0 and chose to flaunt our laws in the most egregious manner possible.<\/p>\n
The gunman went on the run and has been named by police as Francisco Oropesa, a 38-year-old Mexican who has been deported multiple times. \u00a0MSN<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
A second source, within the Department of Homeland Security, told Fox News that Oropesa had been deported five times between 2009-2016. \u00a0MSN II<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Multiple times. ‘Nuff said.<\/p>\n
The other fact is that the police were called multiple times, both by the family that night and before that by other people in the area.<\/p>\n
\nVeronica Pineda, 34, who lives across the street from the suspect\u2019s home… said she didn\u2019t know Oropeza well but occasionally saw him, his wife and son ride their horses on the street. She said the family had lived there about five or six years and that neighbors have called authorities in the past to complain about people firing guns.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Not making points for the cops here.<\/p>\n
\nBefore the deadly confrontation at Garcia\u2019s home, five 911 calls had been made to report the gunman shooting his rifle outdoors, the father said.<\/p>\n
Authorities got to the scene as fast as they could, Capers said. But his small force covers a large county, he said, and the home is about 15 minutes outside town. \u00a0CNN<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\nRene Arevalo Sr., who lives close to Oropesa’s house, said he heard gunshots around midnight but was unperturbed, as gunfire is normal in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
‘It’s a normal thing people do around here, especially on Fridays after work,’ Arevalo said.<\/p>\n
‘They get home and start drinking in their backyards and shooting out there.’ \u00a0MSN<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Disclosure: I live outside a small town, so my LEO response time would also lag. But if someone was getting multiple po-po visits with no change, or numbers of people were shooting off guns late at night just for fun, we’d have a new sheriff pretty quickly. I see this as at least partially the fault of lax law enforcement – they knew they have a problem, failed to act, and then when it was critical it took FIVE 911 calls to get the response? This may not be an Uvalde-class screw-up – but to me it’s certainly on the same list.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
