Deadly Grand Forks apartment shooting appears to be self-defense, police say<\/strong>
\nThe Grand Forks Police Department said 53-year-old Dwight Cross pulled out what appeared to be a sawed-off shotgun when he was fired upon several times. It was later determined to be a pellet gun.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nGRAND FORKS \u2014 The investigation continues into a deadly shooting at a Grand Forks apartment building .<\/p>\n

No arrests have been made as police believe it may be a case of self-defense.<\/p>\n

It happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday night, April 1, on the bottom floor of the Stanford Manor apartments.<\/p>\n

“He was a good neighbor, never had any altercations,” said Russell Elam, who lives in the building and was referring to 53-year-old neighbor Dwight Cross.<\/p>\n

Elam still can’t shake what he saw in the hallway after rushing downstairs when he heard several pops.<\/p>\n

“It shocked my eyes, I had to get away from the scene, it was dramatic,” Elam said.<\/p>\n

According to the Grand Forks Police Department, Cross was laying on the floor after 24-year-old Javon Lowery of Grand Forks shot him once in the chest during a brief argument.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Suspect identified in shooting involving Columbus police, SWAT<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nColumbus police have identified a veteran SWAT officer who shot a 22-year-old man Sunday after he reportedly confronted police with a gun and began shooting in North Linden.<\/p>\n

Columbus police said the division received a call around 9 a.m. Sunday morning from a person who said that there was a person inside a home on the 2900 block of Azelda Street with a gun who wanted to “shoot it out with the police.”<\/p>\n

A SWAT team was called to the scene after determining that the person with the firearm, identified as 22-year-old Rodriguez Fitzgerald, had multiple warrants for felonies, including domestic violence and felonious assault.<\/p>\n

Police said Fitzgerald came out of the home with a gun and began firing at the officers who had responded to the scene. One officer, identified Monday by police as Rodney Mayberry, a member of the SWAT team, fired back, hitting Fitzgerald.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Three Marines jump into action to stop knife attack at Chick-fil-A, Virginia cops say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThree Marines stopped a knife attack at a Virginia Chick-fil-A, with one going so far as to snap the knife in half, according to the Stafford County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Identities of the \u201cthree hero Marines\u201d have not been released, but investigators say it\u2019s clear they prevented a stabbing.<\/p>\n

It happened about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at the Chick-fil-A on Dunn Drive in North Stafford, the sheriff\u2019s office said in an April 3 news release. Stafford is about 65 miles north of Richmond.<\/p>\n

\u201cWitnesses advised one male was approached by two others. The three got into a brief argument before a physical altercation ensued. As the two males assaulted the victim, one of the two males pulled out a knife,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThree nearby Marines quickly jumped into action and attempted to separate the parties. One of them broke the knife in half to prevent further harm, and the two suspects quickly fled.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
