One of our least favorite people,\u00a0 former Major Nidal Hassan, the Ft. Hood (soon to be Ft. Cavazos) shooter who killed 13 servicemen in 2009, is set to appear before the Court of Appealks for the Armed Forces Tuesday for an appeal of his death sentence.<\/p>\n

The hearing Tuesday marks the next stage of the case in the drawn-out military appeals process. Regardless of the hearing\u2019s outcome, it remains unclear if and when a decision on execution could be made.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say a lot could happen,\u201d Richard Dieter, the executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, told Military Times.<\/p>\n

Once the jury reaches a verdict, the case will likely be appealed to the Supreme Court, Dieter explained. The president must also weigh in with final say on the ex-soldier\u2019s fate. As commander in chief, the president is required to confirm an execution sentence or commute it to what would likely be life in prison.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

NPR issued an official correction following a story published Friday which argued \u201cthere is limited scientific research\u201d supporting the idea that males have a \u201cphysical advantage\u201d over females in competitive sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cCorrection: An earlier tweet incorrectly stated there is limited scientific evidence of physical advantage. Existing research shows that higher levels of testosterone do impact athletic performance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Remember Whipgate? Those mean Border Patrol agents supposedly whipping Haitian immigrants on the Texas border? Subsequent investigation showed those accusations to be groundless, but that isn’t stopping the pols from trying to prosecute Border Patrol agents for it.<\/p>\n

“We write to you regarding the apparent attempt by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to use an unprecedented process to discipline agents from the U.S. Border Patrol\u2019s Del Rio Horse Patrol Unit,” Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, Oversight Chairman James Comer and Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green said in a letter to acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller. “We expect your cooperation with our oversight.”<\/p>\n

The chairmen said they have learned that the disciplinary action the agents will face over the incident may not be decided by the Border Patrol chief or a supervisor or sector chief \u2014 and instead may be determined by a “senior executive” with no experience in Border Patrol or law enforcement.<\/p>\n

“We can only conclude that CBP is considering an official without Border Patrol or law enforcement experience as a decision maker to protect the agent\u2019s political accountable superiors \u2014 the President, the Vice President, and the Secretary of Homeland Security \u2014 for their inaccurate and defamatory statements,” they wrote.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
