Man dead after shooting involving Monte Vista Police<\/strong>
\nPolice responded to a welfare check on Tuesday when they were confronted by an 18-year-old armed with knives, according to police.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nMONTE VISTA, Colo. \u2014 An 18-year-old man was killed during a shooting involving Monte Vista police on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

At about 12:35 p.m., Tuesday, two officers from the Monte Vista Police Department (MVPD) responded to a home in the 1200 block of South Broadway Street for a welfare check.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived at the home, a man confronted the officers and was armed with two knives, according to police. The 18-year-old man ran toward officers while swinging the knives, police said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Increasing the number of knives one brings to a gunfight does not affect the outcome, but that doesn’t explain what looks like a sweatshirt covering the assailant’s head as he attacks.<\/p>\n

\nA man brandishing a machete barricaded himself in a house and held three people hostage in San Jose, California.<\/p>\n

Police say a California man with a machete took one adult and two children as hostages and held them up in a house near a high school, KTVU reports.<\/p>\n

Local authorities responded to the situation around 8:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

“Units are currently working a hostage barricade involving an adult male armed with a machete in the 900 Block of Boynton Ave. Special operations personnel are on scene. We will provide updates as they become available,” San Jose Police tweeted.<\/p>\n

Before the situation broke the suspect \u2014 who remains unidentified at the time of this report \u2014 called his cousin, Cassandra, and requested that she come to pick up his dog.<\/p>\n

“He called me when everything was happening,” she told the station. “Come get the dog \u2018cause I\u2019m in trouble,” Cassandra said, according to KTVU.<\/p>\n

“I feel in shock, because I didn’t think he would ever be doing something like that,” she continued. “He had anger issues, but I never thought he would do that.”<\/p>\n

Law enforcement attempted to negotiate with the suspect for a few hours but were unable to get the man to surrender peaceably.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
