California Gov. Gavin Newsom is facing increased pressure to use his authority to unilaterally enact proposals that would dole out billions of dollars to Black residents in reparations as a way to make amends for slavery if the state legislature doesn’t act.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Interesting. My first thought is “can the governor unilaterally give away billions of dollars?”<\/p>\n

The state wide proposal is a lot cheaper than the San Francisco proposal – it only wants to give away $360,000 apiece. Was $220K, but the upped the ante in view of inflation.<\/p>\n

Now, California is already facing a $22,5000,000,000 shortfall., which some experts think is itself $7,000,000,000 too low. Note that California forecast a $100,000,000 surplus last year. An eighth of a trillion dollar swing in one year is a LOT, at least for my household budget. Note that the program as described would give away $640,000,000,000 to 1,800,000 Californians supposedly affected by slavery.<\/p>\n
