Suspect killed, employee injured after shots fired during robbery attempt in Ballard<\/strong><\/p>\n

Police are investigating after a suspect was killed and one person was injured during an apparent robbery in Ballard on Monday evening, according to the Seattle Police Department.<\/p>\n

Just after 4 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting at King Smoke Shop in the 7700 block of 15th Avenue Northwest.<\/p>\n

Upon arriving at the scene, police found two men with gunshot wounds \u2014 an employee inside the business and a man outside the store.<\/p>\n

Police say their preliminary investigation indicates that a 29-year-old man attempted to rob the store, then shot a 38-year-old employee. That employee then fired back, striking and injuring the suspect, who left the store after the shots were fired.<\/p>\n

Community members provided aid to the employee, using their belts as a tourniquet, before police arrived. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nChicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) released multiple third-party videos Thursday of a fatal encounter between an off-duty city police officer and an unarmed alleged robber, along with audio recordings of 911 calls from the incident.<\/p>\n

The incident took place Jan. 18 when a female police officer walked out of a building to break up what appeared to be an argument involving four people.<\/p>\n

The fight between the four men took place in the 1300 block of West 90th Street.<\/p>\n

The four individuals can be heard in the video arguing as they shouted over one another. The officer tried to intervene. At one point, the officer tries to tell them that it was “OK” and to “calm down.” Three of them walked away, but Leevon M. Smith, 39, stayed behind.<\/p>\n

The two were speaking, and as the officer turned to walk away, Smith allegedly grabbed her from behind and grabbed her gun to try and disarm her.<\/p>\n

“I’ll kill you, I’ll kill you,” the officer warned Smith. She was trying to wrestle herself free from Smith’s grip, and they both fell to the ground.<\/p>\n

Smith’s family filed a lawsuit against Chicago and the officer for $10 million.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
