Police identify suspect killed in gunfire exchange with store clerk during robbery attempt in East Hartford<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nPolice identified a man killed in a gunfire exchange during a robbery attempt at a clothing store in East Hartford on Tuesday night that also injured the store\u2019s clerk.<\/p>\n

The man killed was a suspect in the robbery attempt and was identified as Jashar Haslam, 26, of Hartford.<\/p>\n

Haslam and another suspect entered Humble & Paid Co. clothing store located at 1285 Main St. in East Hartford after 10:30 p.m. wearing black ski masks with the intention of committing a robbery, police said. A struggle ensued between the store clerk and one of the suspects, who pulled out a gun.<\/p>\n

Police said the clerk was shot in the back by Haslam before returning fire, hitting Haslam multiple times.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nA Florida homeowner will \u201cabsolutely not\u201d face charges after firing an \u201cAK-47-style gun\u201d at suspected home invaders, a local sheriff said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe started shooting for his own protection, to get them out of his house and to protect himself,\u201d Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said of the recent shooting in a video address posted to the office\u2019s official Facebook page.<\/p>\n

Simmons said three men, including one armed with a gun, entered a home in Escambia County just ahead of midnight on July 7. The homeowner was present when the three men entered the house and pulled out a handgun from his waistband, but dropped the firearm.<\/p>\n

The homeowner was able to run and retrieve another weapon, an \u201cAK-47-style gun,\u201d while one of the suspects picked up the victim\u2019s handgun.<\/p>\n

The homeowner then began firing at the suspects before they fled the home.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
