Been a good day for political stupid. In the first item, Mr. Gun Expert Joe Biden weighed in on police shootings, questioning why they don’t just shoot for the leg or some such.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead of anybody coming at you and the first thing you do is shoot to kill, you shoot them in the leg,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n

Police have fatally shot 1,101 people in the last 12 months, according to a Washington Post database. Of cases in the database that include information on whether the person was armed, 83 percent of people who were fatally shot by police since 2015 were armed. Just 6 percent of cases were unarmed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So Joe is advocating less than lethal force against folks armed with lethal weapons. Tell ya what. Joe:\u00a0 Let’s make a bet. You get a handgun, loaded (or not – you find out when you start to shoot) with some indeterminate number of rounds, not to exceed 10 since you think that is a magic number. Your 3 or 4 assailants get one gun, the rest knives. From 20 feet out, you try to deal with them ONLY with leg shots. Any other hits, or if you get shot\/cut, you resign unconditionally.\u00a0 How strongly do you believe, Joe?<\/p>\n

And then there’s Ms. Jackson-Lee. Houston’s mobile dumpster fire has introduced a bill (illegal on its face, unconstitutional to its core) criminalizing “hate speech”. It’s a good one, too – almost anything someone can claim is “hate speech” is punishable, and even private communication can be penalized. Oh, and it’s aimed at “white supremacy” because there are no other forms of hate speech.<\/p>\n

Jackson Lee introduced the Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023 to assign criminal punishment for certain forms of hate speech.<\/p>\n

…anyone who “published material advancing white supremacy, white supremacist ideology, antagonism based on \u2018replacement theory,\u2019 or hate speech that vilifies or is otherwise directed against any non-White person or group, and such published material,” if it was “read, heard, or viewed by a person who engaged in the planning, development, preparation, or perpetration of a white supremacy inspired hate crime.”Fox News<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Think of it. They say George (just picking a name) wrote something they call “hate speech”. Fred happens to read it in a private e-mail written to him by George. This e-mail crops up in Fred’s emails when Fred says he doesn’t like a particular ethnic group…and George gets charged. Maybe even sent to the gulag. Has this twunt never heard of, say, the Bill of Rights?<\/p>\n

Thank God in a Republican-dominated House this abortion will never get out of committee. But it is scary that any Congressperson would even propose such a bill. Would be nice if someone would propose impeachment due to her breaking her pledge to uphold the Constitution? (I can hear it now: “Uphold” Thought you said hold up! I was packin’ a piece!”)<\/p>\n

And last but not least, The San Francisco Reparations Committee is proposing paying each long time black resident more than $5,000,000 because, they’re black. “Systemic racism” and all that. Oh, and pay off all their existing debt.<\/p>\n

San Francisco\u2019s<\/a> reparations committee has proposed paying each Black longtime resident $5 million and granting total debt forgiveness due to the decades of “systematic repression” faced by the local Black community.<\/p>\n

…to address reparations \u2013 not for slavery, since California<\/a> was not technically a slave state, but “to address the public policies explicitly created to subjugate Black people in San Francisco by upholding and expanding the intent and legacy of chattel slavery.”<\/p>\n

To be eligible for the program, the applicant must be 18 years old\u00a0and have identified as Black or African American on public documents for at least 10 years. They must also prove at least two of eight additional criteria, choosing from a list that includes, “Born in San Francisco between\u00a01940 and 1996 and\u00a0has proof of residency in San Francisco for\u00a0at least 13 years,”\u00a0and\/or, “Personally, or the direct descendant of someone, incarcerated by the failed War on Drugs.”<\/p>\n

The plan also calls on the city to supplement lower-income recipients\u2019 income to reflect the Area Median Income (AMI), about $97,000, annually for at least 250 years. Fox News<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
