Arizona Governor Doug Ducey did not want to wait for Team Biden to address illegal alien related border challenges. The state of Arizona took matters into its own hand, the governor approved the construction of a border barrier made of shipping containers. This new border barrier succeeded in getting Team Biden to take action on matters related to the border. They initiated a lawsuit arguing that Arizona trespassed on federal property by placing the shipping container barrier there.<\/p>\n

“Arizona has unlawfully and without authority failed to remove the shipping containers from lands owned by the United States or over which the United States holds easements, thereby damaging the United States,” the lawsuit argues.<\/p>\n

The legal move comes after Ducey issued an executive order in August directing the state’s Department of Emergency and Military Affairs to begin a Yuma County project. The 3,820 feet of the previously open border was closed with 130 shipping containers in just 11 days.<\/p>\n

The project then expanded to other parts of the border, with 6,680 feet of containers stacked two-high throughout Cochise County by early November. That section is estimated to take more than 2,700 shipping containers to fill the 10-mile gap along the southern border.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One of Joe Biden’s first acts was to sign an Executive Order intended to streamline the immigration process. This order started a chain reaction of events that resulted in a new test “design”. The civics section will go from “filling the blank” to a multiple-choice option. The English section of the test shifts towards conversational English and away from formal English. This new test will see a five-month trial period in 2023, and is expected to be incorporated in the same year.<\/p>\n

The changes will lead to the English-speaking section being curated to more daily conversational subjects, as opposed to more formal subjects formerly discussed, with standardized criteria for assessment that reduce the examiner’s discretion to judge the quality of responses. “Applicants will respond to three color photographs randomly selected from a bank of approximately 70 images that directly correspond to an ordinary usage scenario,” according to the notice.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the section on civics will be recrafted to become a multiple-choice format with each question having four options, as opposed to the previous “fill-in-the-blank” test where candidates have to answer a question from memory. The multiple-choice format, used on standardized tests for college admissions like the SAT and ACT, increases the probability of a candidate selecting the right answer by 25%, while allowing the candidates to recall the right answer more easily.<\/p>\n

“Primarily, this is about responding to suggestions from the wider community that we’ve received over the past couple of years and making it more fair,” a USCIS official told CNN in advance of the notice’s publication. The proposed test will enter a five-month trial period in 2023 before being adopted later in the year, though current citizenship applicants will use the existing test.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
