Customer calls 911 over slow-smoked pork she says was too pink<\/h3>\n

This Barbecue Karen has a major beef with a popular pork dish.<\/p>\n

One beloved North Carolina barbecue spot became the center of controversy on Tuesday when a disgruntled customer called 911 to report her slow-smoked pork was too pink, local reports said.<\/p>\n

It all started when a diner at Clyde Cooper\u2019s Barbecue, a Raleigh institution since 1938, approached owner Debbie Holt saying her pork was undercooked \u2014 even though a slight pink ring or hue is the mark of properly done hog barbecue.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen she said it to me I said, \u2018Excuse me?\u2019\u201d Holt told WRAL. She tried to explain to the customer that the pink color was normal, with other diners chiming in to help.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of snickered a little bit and told her, \u2018Honey, that\u2019s when the barbecue is smoked. It turns pink,\u2019\u201d Holt recalled. \u201cAnd, she was insistent it wasn\u2019t done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Holt said the woman did not make a scene, but phoned emergency services from outside the restaurant.<\/p>\n

While police officers were sent to the scene, they knew better than to take the complaints seriously.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the cop came in though, he had a cute little smile on his face and rolled his eyes, and just had his arms folded,\u201d Holt explained. \u201cI don\u2019t even think he said much to me except, \u2018I got you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to the News & Observer by phone Tuesday night, however, the unhappy diner \u2014 a 30-something native North Carolinian \u2014 said she was simply trying to report bad service.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery barbecue I\u2019ve had is all the way done, you don\u2019t see pink at all,\u201d she claimed. \u201cI asked if they could cook it some more, that I\u2019m not eating any pink barbecue. They said it\u2019s supposed to be pink, but I\u2019ve never had it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The customer asked for either a refund or something else from the menu, but says she was refused both.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re telling me you don\u2019t do refunds or exchanges, there\u2019s a problem,\u201d she insisted. \u201cIt was the issue, the way the situation was handled. You have to do either a refund or an exchange. If you\u2019re not going to do either, that\u2019s the issue. That\u2019s the reason I called the cops.\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman then explained that she was offered to exchange her meal for fried chicken in between the 911 call and the police arriving. She accepted the switch, and said this likely would have avoided the entire conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf she had given me a chicken plate I would have gone about my business,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The woman allegedly left Clyde Cooper\u2019s a one-star Google review with a photo of her barbecue plate later that day. Even so, Holt said she would be more than willing to make amends.<\/p>\n

\u201cTell her to come back and I\u2019ll educate her about North Carolina, southeastern-style barbecue,\u201d Holt said. \u201cI\u2019d be happy to.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Man knocks himself out trying to flee store with luxury stolen goods, video shows<\/h3>\n

A Washington man was caught on video running into a plate glass window as he attempted to get away with luxury stolen goods, knocking himself unconscious, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The brazen robbery happened in broad daylight at a Louis Vuitton store in Bellevue, KOMO News reported.<\/p>\n

The 17-year-old suspect grabbed handbags worth $18,000 off displays and tried to dart out of the store, police said.<\/p>\n

However, the suspect appeared to run into trouble when he knocked himself out by running into a plate glass window.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors said the 17-year-old, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was part of a retail crime theft ring, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

More than 50 repeat offenders have been arrested in Bellevue for retail robbery and shoplifting, according to the report. The county has charged 59 organized retail theft cases so far this year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Airport security, a gun and a chicken: A TSA story straight out of South Florida<\/h3>\n

So where would one find a gun being used to stuff a bird a few weeks before Thanksgiving month? Naturally, at an airport serving the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area.<\/p>\n

But just as some people mistakenly believe that turkeys can fly, Transportation Safety Administration agents at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport found that a woman flying to Port-Au-Prince in Haiti mistakenly believed a gun could fly if put inside a chicken \u2014 or it least it had a better shot at getting past TSA.<\/p>\n

That didn\u2019t fly and neither did she on her planned flight. TSA referred her to Customs and Border Protection.<\/p>\n

A pun-filled (\u201cThe plot chickens…\u201d) Monday post to TSA\u2019s Instagram account \u2014 \u201cTravel Tips and Dad Joke Hits\u201d \u2014 told and showed the story of a handgun found inside a wrapped KikiriQuirch Baking Hen.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hate to beak it to you here, but stuffing a firearm in your holiday bird for travel is just a baste of time,\u201d the post said. \u201cThis idea wasn\u2019t even half-baked; it was raw, greasy, and obviously unsupervised.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery passenger bears the responsibility of knowing what the laws are on both sides of their journey if intending to travel with a gun,\u201d TSA spokesperson Sari Koshetz said. \u201cIt can never be in your carry-on bag, and it may be illegal to transport in your checked bag as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

TSA said it had intercepted 700 guns this year at Florida airport checkpoints, a record for statewide gun confiscations, and 12 airports have reset their highs for guns taken at checkpoints. That includes all three South Florida airports.<\/p>\n

But TSA says the state leader isn\u2019t Miami International Airport (83, fourth most), Palm Beach International (28, seventh), or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (No. 2 at 120), but Orlando International Airport at 129.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sheriff’s deputy loses license over $400 worth of Pok\u00e9mon cards<\/h3>\n

A sheriff’s deputy in Kansas reportedly lost his law enforcement license after he was caught fraudulently trying to purchase hundreds of dollars in Pok\u00e9mon cards.<\/p>\n

William Knight, 32, had his license revoked by the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers\u2019 Standards and Training (CPOST) earlier this month, according to KSHB News.<\/p>\n

Knight reportedly served as a sheriff’s deputy in Johnson County from March 8, 2019 until May 13, 2022, the day Knight’s alleged fraud occurred.<\/p>\n

According to several reports, Knight drew the suspicion of an asset protection investigator while he was at a retail store. Knight was in uniform and buying groceries, along with a bunch of Pok\u00e9mon cards, when security approached him, CPOST records say.<\/p>\n

Initially, Knight attempted to leave, saying that he had to respond to a call, but after questioning he admitted to the store’s security that he had tampered with the Pok\u00e9mon cards, the Kansas City Star reports.<\/p>\n

Knight had taken barcodes from cheaper products and put them over the barcodes on the Pok\u00e9mon cards, CPST records say. He then reportedly attempted to scan and fraudulently purchase the Pok\u00e9mon cards for cheaper prices.<\/p>\n

The retail value of the 12 sets of Pok\u00e9mon cards Knight was attempting to fraudulently purchase was about $394, CPOST records said.<\/p>\n

Knight’s attorney reportedly said his client “exercised poor judgment” in a “time of severe stress and anxiety.” Attorney Kevin Dellet also said that Knight is an Iraq combat veteran who wants to make amends with his victim and community, according to the Kansas City Star. Dellet also reportedly said his client was “gainfully employed” and working hard to support his family.<\/p>\n

Knight was reportedly arrested and booked into the Johnson County Adult Detention Center on May 13, 2022 before he posted a bond of $2,500.<\/p>\n

County prosecutors offered a diversion agreement to Knight, which he reportedly accepted in August.<\/p>\n

Ever-popular Pok\u00e9mon cards were first released in 1998 and are a staple of many Americans’ childhoods. They are based on the also popular Nintendo video game franchise of the same name.<\/p>\n

The sometimes highly sought-after collectible cards come in different rarities and different sets, and while it’s unclear which cards Knight attempted to fraudulently purchase, retail stores usually stock and sell “booster” packs of cards that offer the chance to attain very rare cards.<\/p>\n

Boxes of booster cards are also sold in the same stores, and they cost around $100 a box. Knight perhaps was attempting to fraudulently purchase several boxes of booster packs, but that isn’t made clear in the CPOST reports.<\/p>\n

As of August 2022, the most expensive Pok\u00e9mon card ever sold is a single 10-grade “Pikachu Illustrator” card, which was purchased by millennial social media personality and boxer Logan Paul for roughly $5.275 million, according to Guinness World Records.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Texas man found clutching gun while asleep in running car with several thousand fentanyl pills: police<\/h3>\n

A Texas man in possession of several thousand fentanyl pills was arrested\u00a0in El Paso, Texas<\/a>, after officers found him asleep behind the wheel of his car while holding a gun, according to police.<\/p>\n

Jevshua Muniz, 35, is facing charges of manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon.<\/p>\n

He was allegedly found asleep in his car facing traffic in eastern El Paso around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Officers woke him up and searched his car, where they found the fentanyl pills.<\/p>\n

Pictures released by the El Paso Police Department showed cash and thousands of fentanyl pills in more than a dozen plastic bags.<\/p>\n

Muniz is being held at the El Paso County Detention Facility on a combined $202,000 bond.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Maryland Sheriff\u2019s Deputy \u2018in Full Uniform\u2019 Allegedly Raped Woman in Kohl\u2019s Parking Lot, Followed Her from Work Days Later<\/h3>\n

A 30-year-old sheriff\u2019s deputy in Maryland was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in a department store parking lot last week then followed her from her place of employment in the following days.<\/p>\n

Steven Victor Abreu of the Wicomico County Sheriff\u2019s Office was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with one count each of second-degree rape, second-degree assault, false imprisonment, and sexual contact with a person in law enforcement custody, as well as three counts of misconduct in office, court documents reviewed by Law&Crime show.<\/p>\n

According to a probable cause affidavit, a female referred to in court documents as \u201cJA\u201d reported the alleged sexual assault to deputies on Sunday. The victim said the encounter took place at approximately 1 a.m. on Oct. 26 in the parking lot of a Kohl\u2019s Department Store.<\/p>\n

Per the affidavit, the victim met a friend in the parking lot when Abreu, \u201cin full uniform,\u201d pulled up behind her car in marked sheriff\u2019s office vehicle and told JA and her friend that they couldn\u2019t be there after the store closed. The victim said Abreu spoke briefly to her friend before releasing him and speaking to her. He identified himself by name as Steven Abreu, then took down the victim\u2019s phone number before allegedly getting physical with her, documents say.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe stated that he instructed her to get out of her vehicle. stating he wanted to check for illegal substances. She complied and described that he did not search her vehicle but proceeded to \u2018frisk\u2019 her. She stated that he used his hands to grab her breasts and then grabbed her buttocks,\u201d the affidavit states. \u201cShe stated that he then told her to get back into her vehicle. which she did. She said that he then leaned into the open driver\u2019s side window, keeping his flashlight on and in his right hand. She said he then moved his left hand under her pants and penetrated her vagina with his fingers. She stated that he then began touching her breasts, under her clothing. with his left hand.\u201d<\/p>\n

The victim allegedly told police that she \u201cdid not consent to any of the sexual acts,\u201d emphasizing that she \u201cdid not feel free to leave and was fearful of what would happen if she did try to run away or fight him.\u201d The victim\u2019s friend called to check on JA shortly after leaving and JA allegedly lied and told Abreu it was her babysitter calling and she was late to get home, \u201choping he would end the assault and let her leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abreu allegedly wrote his phone number on a piece of paper and gave it to JA before letting her leave the scene. She said he sent her several text messages \u201cof a sexual nature\u201d over the next few days before JA blocked Abreu\u2019s number.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 28, JA was allegedly driving after leaving work when she was pulled over by Abreu, who allegedly \u201cacted like he didn\u2019t know it was her prior to stopping her.\u201d Abreu allegedly said he stopped her for having a tag light out. He then spoke to her from the opened driver\u2019s side window, per the affidavit.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said that she told him she only had a few minutes to get to the store to get diapers for her child, before the store closed. She said he asked her why she didn\u2019t go to a different store. closer to her job. before heading in the direction of her home. indicating he had been watching her prior to her leaving from work and knew where she had gone,\u201d the document states. \u201cShe stated that he reached in to the vehicle and grabbed her face. in the area of her jawline, with his hand. She stated that he forcefully moved her face and looked at her neck. She said he commented on marks that he had seen on her neck during the first assault, no longer being visible. She said that he then let her go and told her that he would see her again and that she was not to tell anyone about their interactions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The following day, JA allegedly said that she was \u201cso fearful\u201d of Abreu coming back to her place of employment that she had her fianc\u00e9 drop her off and pick her up. When he picked her up at approximately 10:15 p.m., JA\u2019s fianc\u00e9 allegedly saw Abreu\u2019s sheriff\u2019s vehicle in the parking lot with the headlights on. The vehicle then went to an adjacent gas station and parked.<\/p>\n

JA reported her alleged interactions with Abreu on the morning of Oct. 30 and detectives interviewed him later that afternoon. Detectives then allegedly recorded JA calling Abreu.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn that call Abreu spoke to J.A. about the incident and apologized 3 separate times,\u201d the affidavit states. \u201cAbreu also admitted that he had turned off the camera systems in his car and his body-worn camera after the initial approach and prior to engaging in the conversation at the driver side door of J.A.\u2019s vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The interviewing detective reportedly noted that Abreu made \u201cnumerous\u201d statements that the detective \u201cknew to be untrue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abreu allegedly said that he first approached JA and her friend because JA\u2019s friend was also his friend. He also allegedly said that he released JA and the friend at the same time, didn\u2019t ever turn his body camera off, and did not have any subsequent conduct with JA after the incident. The friend allegedly told police that he\u2019d never seen Abreu before that evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the interview, Abreu admitted to vaginally penetrating J.A. with his fingers. touching her breasts under her clothing, and grabbing her breasts and buttocks while she was standing outside her vehicle,\u201d the document states. \u201cHe stated that this all happened in the Kohl\u2019s parking lot, during the first encounter he had with her. Abreu maintained that the sexual contact was consensual.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abreu had been with the sheriff\u2019s office for less than a year, according to a press release. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Monday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
