Conor Kennedy, the grandson of Bobby, says on Instagram he secretly went to Ukraine and fought there before coming home.<\/p>\n
“Going in, I had no prior military experience and wasn’t a great shot, but I could carry heavy things and learned fast,” he wrote. “I was also willing to die there. So they soon agreed to send me to the northeastern front.” CBS News<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Conor, known mainly as Taylor Swift’s ex, describes his time there as short, and says he did not use his real last name and revealed his real identity to only a couple of people.<\/p>\n
\u201cLike many people, I was deeply moved by what I saw happening in Ukraine over the past year. I wanted to help. When I heard about Ukraine\u2019s International Legion, I knew I was going, and I went to the embassy to enlist the next day.\u201d\u00a0 Vanity Fair<\/a><\/p>\n
Kennedy did not specify when he joined and left the legion. Representatives for the International Legion did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment. Insider was not independently able to verify Kennedy’s claims. \u00a0Business Insider<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
While I am normally\u00a0 a real Pollyanna and naively trust in the innate goodness of other people (well, at least with BBQ sauce, said Jeffrey), I am trying to quell my innate cynicism about this – the scion of a political family – nay, dynasty – fading from importance heads to a combat zone to serve selflessly for someone else’s cause. I hope it is true and not a politically Machiavellian gambit aimed at 2024…maybe it’s the last name of Kennedy that makes me think that. If not a stunt, it’s admirable. If it is a stunt…well, I’m sure it will eventually come out in the wash a la Kerry, Blumenthal, and the host of other political posers.<\/p>\n
