{"id":132166,"date":"2022-10-17T06:00:06","date_gmt":"2022-10-17T10:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=132166"},"modified":"2022-10-15T13:33:50","modified_gmt":"2022-10-15T17:33:50","slug":"new-zealand-wants-to-tax-cow-burps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=132166","title":{"rendered":"New Zealand wants to tax cow burps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-85740 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/cowhero2-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" \/><\/p>\n<p>New Zealand&#8217;s Prime Minister, she of the gun bans and loonie left ideas, is back:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On Tuesday, New Zealand\u2019s government proposed a tax on farming emissions. <a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/10\/11\/new-zealand-farmers-to-face-livestock-emissions-charges-under-new\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-ylk=\"slk:Al Jazeera\" data-rapid_p=\"16\" data-v9y=\"1\">Al Jazeera<\/a> reports \u201cPrime Minister Jacinda Ardern told reporters the proposal would make New Zealand\u2019s farmers not only the best in the world but the best <em>for<\/em> the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Zealand\u2019s government has proposed taxing the greenhouse gasses that farm animals make from burping and peeing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the government hopes to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions \u201cand make the nation carbon neutral by 2050.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/zealand-tax-farm-emissions-2025-232819035.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall\">Yahoo News<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The government said the farm levy, announced on Tuesday, would be a world first and farmers should be able to recoup the cost by charging more for climate-friendly products.<\/p>\n<p>There are just 5 million people in New Zealand, but 10 million beef and dairy cattle, and 26 million sheep.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal will provide financial incentives for farmers to use technology to limit sheep and cow burps while the money farmers pay for their emissions will be reinvested in the sector.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/10\/11\/new-zealand-farmers-to-face-livestock-emissions-charges-under-new\">Al Jazeera<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While declining, 40% of New Zealand&#8217;s revenue is from red meat production per this \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/af\/article\/11\/4\/26\/6364964?login=false#:~:text=Over%2040%25%20of%20the%20national%20export%20income%20annually,the%20red%20meat%20%28%24NZ10.4bn%29%20and%20dairy%20%28%24NZ17.4bn%29%20sectors.\">Oxford Academic<\/a> article.\u00a0 Only an idiot would mess with that big a part of the country&#8217;s GDP, right? That would be like, oh, shutting oil pipelines and production down and forcing your county to become dependent on other hostile nations for oil&#8230; what idiot would do THAT?<\/p>\n<p>I do like the &#8220;oh, just charge more &#8211; people will be happy to pay it!&#8221; attitude.
