{"id":13194,"date":"2009-08-03T16:22:51","date_gmt":"2009-08-03T21:22:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=13194"},"modified":"2009-08-03T17:51:41","modified_gmt":"2009-08-03T22:51:41","slug":"dingy-harry-stokes-nirther-passions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=13194","title":{"rendered":"Dingy Harry stokes nirther passions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dingy Harry Reid apparently sees a way to lower Republican approval ratings &#8211; he brought up the birther controversy on the Senate floor for no good reason today according to <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/reid-slams-artificial-controversy-of-obamas-birthplace-2009-08-03.html\">The Hill<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cLet\u2019s be clear, it\u2019s a phony issue and does not deserve even a minute of our attention on the floor of the United States Senate,\u201d Reid said. \u201cIt\u2019s absurd, irresponsible, baseless, and the false claims of long ago have been refuted \u2026 The American people should know that rather than helping them get ahead, some of my colleagues would rather spew ludicrous conspiracy theories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reid accused Republican lobbyists of orchestrating an attempt to discredit Obama by sending out fake letters purporting to be from minority groups. He did not name the groups specifically but called the acts \u201csick, dishonest and really undemocratic.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s a phony issue and not worth a minute of our time&#8230;well, unless Harry brings it up. By the way, this is the only time the issue has been discussed on the Senate floor &#8211; so what the hell is Harry talking about? This is what Republicans sensibly said in the Senate;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI thought that was all put to rest during the campaign,\u201d said GOP Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI keep hearing it coming up, but nothing\u2019s going to happen and it\u2019s not going to accomplish anything,\u201d said Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.). \u201cHe\u2019s elected and he\u2019s there. And I\u2019m not part of those people bringing it up.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Reid is pinging off of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/storyonly\/2009\/7\/31\/760087\/-Birthers-are-mostly-Republican-and-Southern\">Daily Kos<\/a> poll that claims 58% of Republic answered either &#8220;don&#8217;t know&#8221; or &#8220;no&#8221; when asked &#8220;Do you believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America or not?&#8221; (30% said &#8220;don&#8217;t know&#8221;). <\/p>\n<p>Apparently, Kos told Reid that the nirther poll has the legs to carry Democrats through the 2010 election and Reid is running with it.
