Suspects led police chase after shooting at man who saw them break into cars: KCK police<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nTwo people caught breaking into cars in western Wyandotte County early Tuesday fired shots at one of their victims who chased after them and then led police on a high-speed chase from Kansas into Missouri that ended in a rollover crash, police said.<\/p>\n

Both suspects were ejected in the crash and were taken to a hospital. The passenger had life-threatening injuries and the driver had serious injuries.<\/p>\n

The suspects allegedly were breaking into cars in the Westlake neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas, about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday. One of their victims confronted the suspects as they were breaking into his car, said Nancy Chartrand, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.<\/p>\n

The victim started chasing the suspects, who fled in a white late-1990s or early 2000s Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup truck. Near 110th Street and Stave Avenue, the suspects got behind the victim and started shooting at him, Chartrand said.<\/p>\n

Officers spotted the suspect vehicle shortly there after at 75th Street and State and began to pursue it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Man shot, killed by police after threatening officers with spear, Hudson police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe district attorney announced Tuesday that an officer-involved shooting Friday in Hudson was justified.<\/p>\n

A man was shot and killed by police after calling officers to his Caldwell County home and threatening them, according to the Hudson Police Department.<\/p>\n

The district attorney said that he reviewed the officers\u2019 body camera video and the SBI investigation and found no criminal conduct by the officers.<\/p>\n

Police officers said they responded to a home on Eastview Street near Highway 321 in Hudson around 5:30 a.m. on Friday after receiving calls about a sexual assault at the location.<\/p>\n

James Preston Trexler Jr., 44, was identified by police as the caller. When officers arrived, Trexler was outside with a spear.<\/p>\n

Based on previous responses to the home, officers said they learned the reports of sexual assault were not accurate, but were worried for the people inside the home. With that understanding, police said they tried to get Trexler to drop the weapon.<\/p>\n

Channel 9?s Dave Faherty learned last week that Trexler lived in a garage behind his parent\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

In their efforts to deescalate the situation, officers said they made two unsuccessful attempts to use nonlethal options to disarm Trexler.<\/p>\n

Police said Trexler threw a trash can at officers and made a lunging movement toward them with a spear that was interpreted as an imminent threat.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
