Magnet Fishers cleared of charges<\/strong> – three folks made the news magnet fishing near Ft. Stewart recently who pulled up a duffel bag containing 86 rockets, .50 cal ammo belts and a tank tracer round\u00a0 from the river. They were charged by authotities:<\/p>\n The group found the ammunition and 86 rockets in a Delta Airlines duffel bag, and said they were just trying to do the right thing by calling in the bomb squad. That ultimately led to three citations for each of them \u2014 two tickets for $130 and one for $80 \u2014 for magnet fishing at Fort Stewart, entering a closed area and not having appropriate permits. \u00a0 Military Times<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n A Federal court in Statesboro (“that’s Statesboro, Georgia” – h\/t to Taj Mahal) cleared the trio of charges and they will not have to pay fines.\u00a0 The ordinance dated from the ’70s or ’80s and was found in a Delta Airlines duffel bag.\u00a0 Have to wonder if it was to be checked luggage?<\/p>\n “Little Debbie” out\u00a0 of commissaries <\/strong>–\u00a0 McKee Foods says the regulatory burden of supplying the commissary system is too heavy so they will stop selling to the commissary system.<\/p>\n And while Little Debbie snack cakes will still be sold in off-base grocery stores, the company\u2019s dwindling stock on commissary shelves is sure to be a blow to morale.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Military Times again<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Don’t know about how big a blow to morale this will be, but I am curious about why the commissary regulations are so burdensome? WalMart used to be known as a difficult customer because any in-bound delivery found to be less than perfect (ie. one broken pallet from a truck) would cause the entire shipment to be rejected at the shipper’s expense. If Little Debbie can be sold at most stores and WalMart, what is so special about commissaries? Anyone know?<\/p>\n VA going ahead with offering abortions The Department of Veterans Affairs<\/a> on Friday plowed ahead with its plan to offer abortion counseling and services through its hospitals for the first time to veterans, spouses<\/a> and dependents as abortion is being banned around the country and Republicans are vowing to block the move.<\/p>\n In an interim final rule published in the Federal Register, the department gave official notice that it will offer abortion services to those covered by its health care system in cases of rape, incest and danger to the life or health of the mother.<\/p>\n McDonough has said that the department is not prohibited by law from providing abortions, but has not offered the services only because they were not included in the department’s medical benefits package published in 1999.<\/p>\n Republicans cite the Veterans Health Care Act of 1992, which directed the VA to provide reproductive health care except for “infertility services, abortions or pregnancy care” unless that care is needed because of a service-connected condition.\u00a0\u00a0 Military Times Redux<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Funny how they announce this on a Friday when the news is preoccupied elsewhere.
