A scant three weeks before facing sentence in a Federal District Court, Malaysian contractor Leonard Glenn Francis, known as Fat Leonard cut his monitor and slipped away from house arrest. He was cooperating with prosecutors on his orchestration of the largest corruption scandal in US Navy history.<\/p>\n

\u201cFat Leonard\u201d is on the loose.<\/p>\n

The former military contractor at the center of the largest corruption scandal in the history of the US Navy escaped from house arrest in San Diego over the weekend by cutting off his GPS monitor \u2014 weeks before he was to be sentenced for defrauding the service of at least $35 million.<\/p>\n

Leonard Francis, who had been under home confinement since 2018, was reported missing Sunday by police after the federal Office of Pretrial Services \u2014 which had been monitoring him \u2014 reported a problem with the GPS monitor.<\/p>\n

Police conducting a welfare check found the discarded ankle bracelet at Francis\u2019 home and contacted US Marshals.<\/p>\n

The San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force was activated and Naval Criminal Investigative Services is also involved.<\/p>\n

Supervisory Deputy Marshal Omar Castillo said neighbors reported seeing U-Haul trucks coming and going from Francis\u2019 multimillion-dollar home in a gated community, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I suppose a caravan of U-Hauls in California isn’t an unusual sight these days, but ya gotta admire his chutzpa. Now why a wealthy, corrupt foreign national charged with embezzling some $35M from the Navy was on an ankle monitor, well. Let’s just say he’s fortunate he wasn’t a threat to the Clintons, but still couldn’t be allowed to testify.<\/p>\n
