\nIowa police were responding to reports that the man was waiving a gun around outside of an ice cream shop<\/em><\/p>\n

A man who was shot and killed by Waterloo officers over the weekend was holding a realistic-looking pellet gun during the confrontation, police said Monday.<\/p>\n

Michael Ahrens, 32, died at an Iowa City hospital after being shot by police in Waterloo on Saturday afternoon, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation reported. Investigators said the incident began when Waterloo police responded to reports of a man waving a gun around at an ice cream shop and encountered what appeared to be an armed man walking along a road.<\/p>\n

Police said the man, later identified as Ahrens, refused orders to drop the gun and was shot with a bean bag round to try to subdue him. He then pointed the gun he was holding at officers, who shot him, investigators said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nAn armed Arizona man last week detained a murder suspect, who allegedly ran over another man with his car multiple times and stomped his head, until police arrived.<\/p>\n

Emmanuel Reynoso Avila described to FOX 10 Phoenix how he and his brother jumped into action in Mesa on Friday after witnessing a car strike his neighbor, 63-year-old Christopher Heimer, and send him flying through the air.<\/p>\n

“I dropped everything I had, and I ran inside to get my gun while [my brother] was calling first responders,” Reynoso Avila said. “Then I shot off at the ground toward the driver because [the suspect] was trying to leave the area after he had run him over a second time.”<\/p>\n

Heimer was pronounced dead at the scene, the Mesa Police Department said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
