What is the \u2018Dark Brandon\u2019 meme that has taken the White House by storm?<\/h3>\n

The phrase \u201cLet\u2019s Go Brandon\u201d started off as a dig at President Biden that spread quickly online and became a political slogan adopted by the president\u2019s critics on the right, including former President Trump.<\/p>\n

The phrase became popular among Trump\u2019s base after a TV commentator mistakenly interpreted the crowd\u2019s background chanting of \u201cf\u2014 Joe Biden\u201d as \u201cLet\u2019s Go Brandon,\u201d in support of NASCAR driver Brandon Brown.<\/p>\n

But recently, the use of the phrase has shown signs of shifting.<\/p>\n

The White House has attempted to reclaim the \u201cLet\u2019s Go Brandon\u201d catchphrase in the wake of recent wins by the Biden administration via a new \u201cDark Brandon\u201d meme that has flooded the internet.<\/p>\n

Uncomplimentary \u201cDark Brandon\u201d memes first started to make the rounds online shortly after Biden was elected president, according to Politico.<\/p>\n

But on Sunday, new imagery started to gain popularity on Twitter \u2014 one that was complimentary. Some shared images of Biden as \u201cDark Brandon\u201d \u2014 ominous, darkly lit, Terminator-esque images of the commander in chief with bright red eyes.<\/p>\n

\u201cDark Brandon is crushing it,\u201d tweeted deputy White House press secretary Andrew Bates, who shared a photo of Biden with laser red eyes that said: \u201cYour malarkey has been going on for long enough, kiddo.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If you spend any significant time online \u2014 and particularly in the nebulous, insufferable realm of Politics Twitter \u2014 you\u2019ve probably met him: 79-years-old, a full head of silver hair, an immaculately tailored suit, and, frequently, a pair of sizzling red laser-eyes. He\u2019s \u201cDark Brandon,\u201d President Joe Biden\u2019s alpha-male bizarro, and the latest star of the White House\u2019s ham-fisted effort to convince people that the septuagenarian commander-in-chief is actually a Super Cool Badass Dude\u2122.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In reality, the meteoric rise of the Dark Brandon meme \u2014 a liberal effort to reclaim the already-lame \u201cLet\u2019s Go Brandon\u201d shibboleth popular among MAGA conservatives \u2014 is a cautionary tale. With a distinct air of \u201cHow do you do, fellow kids?,\u201d the White House officials and allies sharing the meme are effectively distracting from the actual substance of a newly passed bill that will genuinely help people. Dark Brandon\u2019s roots in Chinese propaganda and distinctly alt-right aesthetics only further draw attention away from the very thing the meme was deployed to celebrate.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s obviously not what the Dark Brandon tweeters are going for. In the Biden-stan circles where Dark Brandon currently frequents, he\u2019s a master tactician who cottons no bullshit while crushing Republican obstruction with ruthless efficacy. He\u2019s a way for die-hard Democrats to claim they\u2019d been right about Biden all along, while simultaneously serving as a fantasy stand-in for the embattled president we actually have.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Not since Hillary Clinton dabbing on \u2018em has a meme been so brutally murdered in public the way \u201cDark Brandon\u201d was on Monday when several administration officials, and high-profile Democrats, started tweeting photos of president Joe Biden with laser eyes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
