Whitworth Rifle<\/a><\/p>\n Domestic call in Broward turns deadly after man shoots at deputies, hitting one in the head<\/strong><\/p>\n Howard Cohen, Miami Herald According to the Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office, their deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call before 8 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of South State Road 7 in North Lauderdale.<\/p>\n After making contact with the suspect at the Avana Cypress Creek Apartments, the man pulled a gun and fired at deputies, grazing one of the deputies in the head, according to BSO.<\/p>\n Deputies returned fire and shot the suspect, who died at a local hospital.<\/p>\n The injured deputy was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, deputies said.<\/p>\n BSO Sheriff Gregory Tony told reporters deputies tried to deescalate the situation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n 1 \/ 0 \/ 0 So it was. Two men had gotten into an argument and physical altercation in a parking lot of the beige and brown complex off U.S. 41 south of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, and one man fired his gun more than once. No one was wounded.<\/p>\n When deputies found Jonathan Huertas Reyes, 32, walking through the complex and attempted to talk to him, he fled and they pursued him, Chief Dep. Donna Lusczynski said at news conference early Sunday. When a deputy pulled out a Taser and made a noise with it to get him to stop, Huertas Reyes pulled a gun out of his fanny pack and held it to his head as he continued to walk away, Lusczynski said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe deputy continues to tell him \u2018Put the gun down, put the gun down,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n By then, onlookers from the complex were also encouraging him in English and Spanish to put down his weapon, according to the Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
