\nA Tennessee man who asked for a ride along with police ended up getting arrested Tuesday after a background check revealed child rape allegations, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Joshua Murrey, 23, put in the ride-along request with the La Vergne Police Department, which said it then conducted a routine background check.<\/p>\n

However, the report came back with two sealed indictments for child rape, the department said.<\/p>\n

Police contacted Murrey on Tuesday and invited him to meet with K-9 Officer Justin Darby at the La Vergne Police Department.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Man killed after allegedly shooting at police officers at Fort Myers apartment complex<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nResidents hid in closets and under beds, barricaded doors and turned off lights as gunshots, some sounding like automatic fire, punctured nighttime routines Wednesday at a Fort Myers apartment complex.<\/p>\n

Investigation of the shooting, which resulted in the death of the man who allegedly carried it out, has been transferred from Fort Myers police, who responded to scene, to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.<\/p>\n

A news release issued by Fort Myers police said officers were called shortly before midnight to an apartment at Vistas at Eastwood, with multiple 911 calls of gunshots being fired.<\/p>\n

“Bam, bam,” is how Jose Toribio, who lives in the same building and on the same floor as where the gunfire came from, described the incident.<\/p>\n

“Pop, pop, pop,” he said. “It was a bunch of pops, kind of like automatic.”<\/p>\n

The news release said officers were immediately met with gunfire by a male armed with a rifle at unit 306, 4933 Eastwood Greens Street. Officers returned fire and began evacuations of surrounding apartments.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nA 21-year-old man in Houston told authorities he shot and killed another man who was trying to carjack him Tuesday at a gas station.<\/p>\n

The Houston Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 8300 block of Park Place Boulevard close to 5:30 p.m. following a shooting. When police arrived, they found a 29-year-old man unresponsive in a crashed vehicle a few blocks from the shooting.<\/p>\n

He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

The shooter told police he was sitting in his vehicle when another man approached and initiated a physical dispute, police said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
